I'm late to the game!! I just ran across this clip on Donovyn Hunter - the whiz kid out of Medford....In Sept. she will be in either grade 9 or 10....Not sure which.... At any rate, I'm sure she has drawn lots of attention in Oregon - kids with her ball handling skills come around once a decade in Oregon.... She will be entering 10th grade, as she is a 2023. She tore her ACL and missed her entire freshman season, but is playing with Cal Stars 17u EYBL this summer, after previously playing with NW Blazers.
She has already visited at least once and her father says she has an OSU offer.

Remains to be seen if Hunter will end up being a player OSU will actively pursue. She is good friends with von Oelhoffen, which could be a plus down the road.
It’ll be interesting to see who ends up as the top recruit from Oregon in that class, Hunter or Sofia Bell.

Kelly Sopak. Sopak is one of the best coaches of girls'/women's basketball at any level. Never having met, or heard of, Kelly Sopak, I have no idea whatsoever who his good friend might be. Dr. Fauci? Ruth Bader Ginsburg? OJ Simpson? Wait! 'Sparty' brought this up! Is it Magic Johnson? Were you planning on enlightening us at any point? |

I believe Hunter is playing in the girl's h.s. tourney this week in Iowa.....
Any word on how she is performing? I would imagine that she is the youngest player on her team, so she might have that going against her....

Sparty is referring to Sabrina Ionescu, Sopak's protege and highest profile player he has ever coached, both in high school and for three years on his highest Cal Stars Nike Elite EYBL squad. Ionescu played on that elite Sopak-coached EYBL team during the springs and summers following her frosh, soph, and junior school years. |
