A few thoughts and observations:
Some of our athletes are making progress this year. That's not entirely true in the sense that every year, some improve, but this year some are getting closer to the national stage and becoming Pac-12 scorers.
Kerissa D'Arpino 11.77 100m Currently the 93rd best collegiate time in the country is 11.66.
Melissa Ausman 173-7 or 52.92 Discus Currently the 28th best collegiate mark in the country. This is interesting as she did not PR last year and two years ago threw 168. She has been over 170' two meets in a row.
Devin Collins 13.46 100HH Seth's sister; red-shirted last season. Two years ago at SacState ran 13.76 wind aided and 14.17 legal. These are big improvements. 13.46 is #43 in the country although it was slightly wind-aided. She also has ran the 400IH at 60.16 (#81 in the country) and has a PR at 59.89. The long hurdle race may the softest event . . . . it seems like the elite athletes don't do it and with dedication a lot of folks can become relavent nationally.
Sara Almen – 1.72m or 5'7-3/4” HJ I'm not sure what is going on here. She has been at 1.69 her last few meets. Three years ago she PR'd at 1.80 (5'11-1/4”) Her season best is just inside the top 100. The best collegiate jump this year is Akela Jones (KansasState) at 1.95 but the top American is Randall Cunningham's daughter Vashti (still in high school). She jumped 1.99 in Portland earlier this year.
Alba Villaronga – her high school pr is 13.61; 100HH. She had surgery on each foot last year and has ran twice this year – season's best 15.09. She will likely push Collins soon but expecting it this year is a stretch.
Morgan Anderson Ran 4:23.53 for the 1500 earlier this year and it was a PR.4:23.0 is currently #100 in the country.
