What took them so long. 2 Olympic gold medals. Held the world record for years. 5 ncaa championships. Now they get around to putting them in their HOF. A few years ago, LaPine (where he started) named a major street after him and he showed up for the dedication.

To answer your question of what "took them so long" ... like other athletic Hall of Fames there is a waiting period for former athletes to be inducted into them as per the attached link in the article:

To be eligible for induction into the Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame, which originated in 1992, former athletes, coaches, administrators and teams associated with the school's intercollegiate athletics success must have departed the University a minimum of 10 years earlier.

Wasn't our 2006 CWS Champion team just inducted into the OSU hall of fame in 2018?

Ashton Eaton was at U of O 2006 to 2010. It seems to be he is a first ballot HOF-er...
