Cancelled. What a great show. Not only that, the people, businesses, restaurants throw open their arms to you. Big blow to the community.

So many events cancelled this year. Hood to Coast is cancelled already. Every community is hurting. But it’s the right thing to do and in the end, we’ll be stronger for it.

Same for the Oktoberfest here in Mt. Angel. They ARE considering a "drive through" which might be interesting.

Two Cabbage Rolls to go please! Then Apple Cake with sauce and a nice dollup of ice cream ala mode from the Dairy Wives! Cabbage Rolls and Coffee - mm mm good! And then ... the Plattsburgh disaster! "The Last Polka" is one of the funniest shows most people have never seen, or even heard of. Growing up in an area with a large Polish population, it has a special place in my heart.

I'll gladly take my schnitzel to go... Two Cabbage Rolls to go please! Then Apple Cake with sauce and a nice dollup of ice cream ala mode from the Dairy Wives! Always a handful of must eats at the Oktoberfest. Can’t imagine heading into the dreary months of fall and winter without first partaking of the chicken dinner from Gervais, a beer sausage with kraut from the Silverton church, and the German chocolate cake. Oddly enough, though I’ve gone every year since I’ve moved to the Willamette Valley, I’ve never had beer or wine there.

Well, to be blunt, a lot of German beer is generally only "okay" if you have grown up in the PNW beer scene. I am not totally poo-pooing it, I like several, but it is also absurdly expensive to drink there, so, like what's the point? The music and crowd is fun, but you can hear it all from the street where you didn't just pay $15 bucks for the right to go buy $11 beers.

I believe you should refer to it as fermented cabbage. Many German people feel that these American type of Oktoberfest celebrations mock their true heritage by portraying them as a group of lederhosen wearing, unhealthy eating boozers that listen to bad music.

Ever been to the Oktoberfest in Munich? Same food, bad music, drinking, celebrating as here but on a much bigger, intense level.

Excellent point. You are right. I should have used the correct term: sauerkraut. Thanks!

The high school letterman's club used to make it's money for the year going out to dump the trash during the Oktoberfest. Then I got a job selling ice for the soda distributor one Oktoberfest. It was a cool weather event, and I made about a buck a bag over my time - and the booths fed me too. I want that job back! Especially a couple ears of corn, apple strudel, barbecued chicken and another picture of the Glockenspiel
