Just sitting around waiting for some college WBB action, whether it be recruiting tidbits, transfer portal action, word on when the players will return to Corvallis, or word on whether there will be a 2020-2021 season, and if so, what will that look like.
In the meantime, I watched a little of the 2017-2018 season the last couple weeks. Some thoughts:
I feel super sorry for Kat. After that 34 point outburst versus the ducks as a sophomore, she seemed poised to have a terrific junior and senior season. The ACL injury really ruined what would have been a really fun two years for Kat, and she will have had super opportunity to improve her game and have tremendous career stats for the Beavs (not counting the team success that may have happened with her). It really would have been nice for her to get that extra year, or a decision to redshirt last season and play in 2020-2021 looks to have been a good idea. It is what it is, but I do feel bad for her. You only have one shot at college basketball, and you hate to see if taken from you.
The Beavs used Marie and Joanna on the floor together at times, with mixed success. This was mainly due to Joanna not quite being ready. It actually gave me a lot of hope for this upcoming season. With the talent of Taylor, Taya, and Ellie, I can really see the Beavs playing those three together and being successful. Although Taya struggled a bit with her shot as a sophomore, I do believe that her and Ellie can stretch the floor while also getting inside. Watching Taya as a sophomore reminded me how good of a passer she is, and Ellie looks to get a good passer as well. Even though the Beavs lost their best rebounder in Mik, they should be more than solid in the rebounding department with with those three on the floor, or when just two of them are on the floor. Right now, I'm feeling pretty good about the front court for the Beavs this season whether those three are the starters, or if two of them start, along with Jasmine or Sasha as the small forward.
Aleah---I also watch the 2019 games against UCLA and oregon. I'll be the first to tell you I was a little worried about Aleah when playing against talented quicker teams, such as UCLA. I think I had forgotten that Aleah was often in the game during crunch time, as Destiny sat on the bench. After watching the UCLA game, Aleah was terrific while Destiny sat, and that was the correct decision at the time. I'm a little less worried about Aleah now, but it would really be nice to have a backup to give her some rest, or in case of injury. If Aleah has the right players around her I feel much better about her running the show this fall. She's done it in BIG games before, but she could really use help. It would be kind of nice to play a team like DePaul early, a team that pressures you, so the Beavs can work out how to handle those situation with the 2020-2021 team.
In speaking about the above players, I left out the possible development, or surprise of others...Jelena...Trish...Jas...Savanah...etc. Some of that will happen. I'm pretty confident about that.
Ok, back to sitting around waiting.....
