Memorial Day is May 30th and has been May 30th since 1868.
Memorial Day (Observed) is one of the three holidays created by 1968's Uniform Monday Holiday Act. The Act was the result of successful lobbying from Big Labor and the Retail and Travel Industries to have three additional three-day weekends to join Labor Day. The other two days are George Washington's Birthday (February 22) and Columbus Day (October 13). Originally, Independence Day and Thanksgiving were also targeted to move. However, the Retail Industry objected to moving Thanksgiving Day and there was massive backlash against moving Independence Day. Veterans Day was also moved to late October, but was moved back to November 11 after only five years, due to massive public backlash.
