The Hubble Space Telescope sends its first image back to Earth on May 20, 1990: The first picture was an attempt to begin calibrating Hubble. Within a couple of weeks, a mirror flaw of about 1/11,000th of an inch was discovered. Kodak offered to create a new mirror. Instead, NASA opted to resolve the issue in five spacewalks from December 5-9, 1993, to create a workaround for the mirror flaw.
