The parent company that owns the Winterhawks declared bankruptcy placing team ownership in question. The WHL can terminate a teams ownership agreement if the franchise enters bankruptcy or is in receivership for more than 10 days.... The good news is that the owners of the Portland Pickles are trying to purchase the francise. Winterhawks in bankruptcy?
Bring on the Pickles!

Maybe they will change the Winterhawks name to the Frozen Cukes.

Hopefully the new ownership, whomever it may be, doesn't do anything stupid and chase out Mike Johnston. Should it be the Pickles owners to buy the team, the only downside is if Portland were to look at getting an NHL team, they'll have to look outside the Winterhawks organization as I don't think the Pickles ownership has the funding and resources to get an NHL franchise.
Friday would have been the start of the Memorial Cup tournament in Kelowna, BC. And damn, the Winterhawks were looking like contenders for it. Had they reached the Championship Final that would have been played on May 24, I was planning on driving north from Pullman after the final baseball game on the 23rd, stay the night along the border, then drive Sunday morning to Kelowna and watch in person.

No Hockey in PDX would be just another cut in the sports world of Oregonians. This new world is not a nice world at all.
