No, it's not emergency or structural surgery that needs to be done. I just got the word that my bladder cancer scope has been postponed. My primary had noticed something wasn't right in my labs and sent me to a urologist. He did the initial scoping and surgery and got the two tumors before they became invasive. Then the treatments. I have been clear for over a year and a half. This scope is going to be a biggie. If clear, I get off a 3 month plan to a 6 month plan. Having a #2 pencil size hose inserted into your penis, past the prostate (grunt) into the bladder and look around ain't fun. The first leak after ain't fun either. 10 minutes is worth it. Kate, you might not deem it essential, but I do. My life depends on catching this stuff early if it's there and taking care of it. I am thoroughly pissed.
This is not partisan or political as it is happening everywhere. There are some things that have to be left up to doctors and patients. BTW, the urologist and I agree.
Frustration post because I can't vent to mrs sage as she isn't here, so you guys are stuck with this.

St. Charles and the local medical people have asked for waivers for these type of procedures. It is time.

I'm sure the doc would be happy to stick a swap up my nose and stick it in a tube. St Charles did it to mrs sage the day of her surgery.

Does it make any sense to have to get a doctor permission slip to get a test? What is this, junior f'ing high school. We're fighting a pandemic.

Maybe the primary care docs who may not be seeing many of their patients for those little things (wart removal, sore arm, rash - none apply to me) need to make a bit of money. I think telemedicine is now reimbursable, so a call to a doc to review symptoms earns that doc enough to buy a coffee.

You can't get an xray or lab work without a "doctor permission slip" so this is handled the same way. Since there are other viruses and bacterial infections that can have similar symptoms early on, it makes sense to rule out something treatable first like strep throat.
If you have symptoms and have been exposed to a positive case, you get tested quickly. Staying home keeps everyone safe from this virus but doesn't treat the 99.5% of medical issues the rest of us deal with. Hopefully real soon you can get in for your scope.

As testing supplies are very, very limited at this time, they don't want everyone that sneezed or just curious or hypochondriacs wasting a finite medical resource. Getting an OK from a Dr. before testing will weed out some unneeded testing.
