Stopped there on our Route 66 trip. They have done a great job memorializing it. They have a reflecting pool. They left a portion of the wall from the building. You can read their names. Inside the exhibit area they have a wall with 1x1x1 spaces with possessions of the victims. The one that broke my heart was there was a pair of brand new sneakers belonging to a little girl from the day care center who was wearing them for the first day. They also have a replica of a small office conference room where there was a water rights hearing going on at the time. They were recording the proceedings and you listen to talk and then hear the explosion. The only live sound of the day. A point of professional pride, there is a Post Office station across the plaza. Two of the first on the scene responders who left their station (a definite no-no), ran to the building and were helping people evacuate.
If you are ever in Oklahoma City, this is a must stop.
An aside to nutso mba, when we there in an RV park, there were tornados going through. The manager told us what TV station to watch and where the tornado shelter was. Maybe a 30 second run from our rig.The nearest one hit about 10 miles away and the baseball size hail (which would destroy an RV) missed us by about a mile. Freaking poured rain. RV park was cool. There was flooding all over the place and they told us just to stay put and stay another night for free.
