There is a school of thought that gerunds should only be used, when absolutely necessary, and it is not absolutely necessary to use a gerund there. In fact, use of a gerund creates an ambiguity as to meaning, which appears unintended from context. I have been taught that it would be better to reword the sentence to replace the gerund, but that does not make the original sentence incorrect by any means.
