Since 1957, Oregon State has had only 4 head wrestling coaches. 3 of them have had strong connections to the state of Iowa.
Dale Thomas 1957-1990 Born in Marion, Iowa. Competed for Cornell College (Iowa).
Mark Johnson 1990-1993 Competed for University of Michigan
Joe Wells 1993-2006 Born in Iowa. Competed for University of Iowa
Jim Zalesky 2006-2020 Born in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Competed for University of Iowa
With the hire of Chris Pendleton, we jump over into the Oklahoma State coaching tree. And as noted by Pendleton in his RUDIS interview, there are currently 9 active D1 Head Wrestling Coaches with Oklahoma State backgrounds.
Chris probably has a lot of orange and black "OSU" gear that he might be able to keep and not look out of place. Just don't try to sneak in any of that "cowboy" logo stuff.
