He and Meadowlark Lemon probably are the guys who first fueled my enjoyment of basketball.

RIP
He could really dribble the ball. I was fortunate to be able to watch them play in the marshfield high school gym three times.

When I was a kid, whenever they used to hit Idaho, they only came to Boise, and always on a school night! No-go said mom!

In North Bend and Coos Bay there was a group of businessmen that called themselves the Pirates. My step grandfather was one of them. They originally got together to bring people and things to the bay area that kids there otherwise wouldn't get to see. They covered the cost so it was free. The Globetrotters would spend a couple days visiting schools.
My grandfather was good friends with several astronauts, he was Stu Russo's daughters godfather, and so they would visit the schools as well. The circus would come to town every year or two. Once again it was no fee to enter, just a donation box.

Long, long time ago, the Globetrotters actually came to Sweet Home. Their opponent was Truax Oil, a real good (national level AAU team) made up primarily of former OSC players. Truax, at the start of the game, didn't get the message they were supposed to play the fools. For a while, they actually tried to play a basketball game. After halftime, having their asses handed to them, Truax decided to do what they were supposed to do and let the Globetrotters entertain us. I was one of the fans, sitting in the second row, who got the bucket of water treatment. Colored confetti.

The Generals would have been better, but they had three coach's kids on their team.
