With the term ending at OSU this week and distance learning being in effect for perhaps all of the spring term, what is this forum hearing about students' plans for staying either in or away from Corvallis?
My subset of local contacts is predicting a significant exodus among the college population beginning later this week.
Any anecdotal stories out there to better understand what Corvallis will look like next week?

Next week is spring break. So Corvallis will seem pretty empty, I suspect.

Not as empty as you might think. People aren't traveling as much with the coronavirus issue at hand. Osu has 2-3000 foreign students that probably aren't going home...same with school kids and their families not taking vacations. I live there and am not seeing it yet. Jmo

Those foreign students cannot practically go home. If they do, they probably won't be allowed back in.

Jmo There was a few leaving last Friday. I think more will leave this week. Downtown area is pretty dead although not all restaurants were abiding by the Governor’s mandate this evening. A lot of the kids are going to just use this as an extended Spring Break, unfortunately. A lot of the kids thing they are immune and don’t care.

My son is a Freshman who pledged Sigma Chi, but is living in Weatherford, as Freshman can't live in until they are Sophomores. According to him, "everyone" in his dorm cleared out. Finals week started officially today, but he had his first Final this past Friday. We were able to change his flight and he came home PDX to Santa Rosa yesterday.
Only a few people were left staying at his dorm Saturday night.
He had a Final today, another one Tuesday and a paper due on Wednesday and then he's done. Cancelled his 3/29 flight back to Portland. Have to wait and see...might have to enroll him in eCampus or something so we're not paying Out of State tuition for on line classes.
Will reach out to the Registrar's office next week. Have a friend who knows a couple of policymakers on campus, trying to see what he can find out about this.

this is going to hammer OSU imo, wondering what on campus enrollment is going to be like, revenues like, when spring term begins.

OSU will not be alone in being hammered, but they'll get through. Many small restaurants will never reopen their doors after these 4 weeks will have passed. OSU's fiscal position come September is way down near the bottom on the list of entities whose balance sheets might be a cause for concern.

I think they will be much more impacted than we will, with out-of-staters who simply stay home next term.

Labs are crazy dogs too Not all labs. http://instagram.com/p/Bp0myWlgcxC

I have a relative who is leaving Corvallis this Thursday after his last final and probably won't be returning anytime soon. He will stay with a sibling and do his OSU on-line study likely through the end of spring term. His roommates are all heading home to family in Oregon or out-of-state to spend the spring with family. I think there will be a lot of rental housing in Corvallis that will be rented but empty at least through June.

The students have been advised by the college not to travel home but stay. The risk is greater by going 'home'and returning rather than stay and have a better chance at containing it. Foreign students would face uncertainty returning if borders are closed so are advised to stay.

Well the first case was just confirmed at OSU, so it's here.
Be safe.

Foreign students would face uncertainty returning if borders are closed so are advised to stay. I had heard that directive by OSU as well. However, I also heard that the vast majority of at least two OSU sports teams were heading home without any specific plans to return. Out-of-state athletes were buying one-way tickets home and planning to participate in on-line instruction for the entire spring term.
