So far the Feds are reacting like they would in a normal crisis - cut interest rates, tax cut proposals, etc.
But they don't seem to understand that if people can't go to work, stop shopping and tourism fades (including sporting events and conventions) and people won't leave their houses, there is nothing the gov can do to make them spend. You can't "fight today's war with yesterday's weapons" as it were. This is going to be a big challenge, if people keep panicking, and especially if it turns out that they have a reason to panic, which I pray is not the case.

I can see this thread devolving very quickly into a political discussion which we steer away from here. But, I'll let it ride for now...

I thought this was the off topic board, besides it is economics, and what the gov is doing is the same thing they have done for decades in a crisis. Problem is that this is unlike any crisis they've had to deal with - if you want me to get political, we can talk about the stupid tax cuts and artificially low interest rates during a time of economic expansion that basically left the Feds with no room to maneuver during any type of crisis. If you want the first 2 trillion dollar national debt, then here is your best shot at it.

I agree with mba, this is non-partisan. Both have done this. And he is right, if you ain't working how is any income based tax cut going to help you? And, if I don't get any bodies walking into my business, I'm sorry but some of them are not going to be my employees.

Might as well talk about these issues because there will be no sports to chat about for some time.
But please keep it civil.

Maybe Benny's House will get Covid-19 style shut down... I get worked up enough about squeeze plays and hit-and-runs. There are endless other board for politics. I enjoy the pure sports-OSU format.

By the way, Richard, a couple years ago, we both heard Trevor Larnach comment to S. Kwan in the outfield while there was a meeting on the mound. The gigantic, first baseman for U.W. had just hit a 450 foot foul that just missed the RF foul pole. I swear Trevor said "bad-assed swing" you heard "big-assed Swede". Both applicable, but I swear it was swing.
