On a related question.... How would the 2016 Beavers have fared against the 2020 Ducks?
Would Hamblin have limited Hebard? How would Hanson have defended Sabrina at her collegiate best? Would Hunter have defended Sabally successfully? Would Oregon have shifted Sabally over to defend Weisner after Weisner scored on Ionescu a few times? Or, would Sabally have had to defend Wiese instead of Moore defending Wiese?
Would have been nice to have Bre Brown and Kolbie Orum to rotate in against Hebard and Sabally and soften the Oregon bigs a bit.
Two very special teams that would have produced some interesting matchups.

I have not seen Jamie play recently, but Sydney is vastly improved. Her defense especially is really good even by WNBA standards. Her ball handling is greatly improved as is her shooting and definitely her decision making. She would totally shut down whomever she was paired up against. She is not close to the same player she was coming out of college.
That would be if the matchups were at their levels now as opposed to their college level. I have no watched either Jamie or Syd enough in college to make that sort of evaluation.

Umm ICYDK, this board is for OSU WBB fans Willtalk apparently saw enough of Sydney during the 2016-2017 season to rip her on this board during the late stages of that season, especially after the team's exit in the Sweet Sixteen following a loss to Florida State. He is very critical of point guards, especially those who choose to shoot on occasion. For those of us who saw Sydney's senior season at OSU, there were games (at ASU, the Civil War games, and the win at Palo Alto come to mind quickly) in which she was very special and turned near losses into wins with her late game play.

Destiny and Mikayla vs Sydney and Jamie. I’d take Destiny and Mikayla. Decisively. Only if they can keep the appropriate social distancing.

Umm ICYDK, this board is for OSU WBB fans We all pretty much know all four are capable of scoring especially in with the open lanes that are available in a two on two game. In that type of matchup defense becomes the deciding factor. So in my post, although I did mention Syds improvement in other aspects of the game my main focus was still on her defense. That was the aspect that I was referring too when I said I did not see them play enough of to make an evaluation at that level. To make a really good evaluation one also has to consider variable factors. Who are they matched up against and if they are having a good or bad day. To do that you have to watch more than a few games. To focus on one player it is always better to watch a replay because that is not really possible while watching and enjoying a game. This requires watching quite a few games and some replays Did it ever occur to you what I meant be "enough games". I am sure you didn't because you wished to use the perspective that I was not really a fan, to disparage the messenger " instead of responding to the message. Actually it was not my latest post you had a problem with but some of my other posts. You should have responded to them point by point. By the way, I watched all the Oregon St games I was able, but being that I lived in central California I was limited to those that were broadcast and until the Pac 12 started to do that I was out of luck. Once they began to broadcast the games I watched them all. During the Syd and Jamie years, they broadcast very few. Of course that never occurred to you did it?

Pac-12 Network launched in August 2012. So both Jamie (2013-2016) and Sydney’s (2014-2017) OSU careers fell entirely within the broadcasting history of the network.

Boy! You want to take any opportunity you can to discredit my don't you. If you had an issue with something I might have posted in the past the time to bring it up would have been then. But seeing that you and Werebeaver hijacked this threat to deal with your past unresolved issues, you leave me no choice but to respond. To start with- I have said from the very beginning on this site that I am critical of point guard play. That is because I was fortunate enough to watch one of the best transition through high school, college and finally play in the WNBA. Chelsea Gray became the templet against which I grade everyone. I don't expect them to be her but she is my standard of excellence. She never averaged more than 14 points a game on a high school team that usually scored 90 and many times over a hundred points a game. In my opinion a points guards primary function is to facilitate team flow and get everyone involved first. I know Syd was special and never ever disparaged her ability or what she brought to the Oregon St program. I knew very well what was unique about her game. The things you state that I said about her was totally taken out of context. To begin with I never ripped her on this board during the late stages of the 16-17 season. I did not join this board until Feb of 2018. so that would have been impossible to do. I will clarify my actual statements and in what context the were made. My statements about Syd were in context of Pivec sophomore seasons adapting to playing the point. She struggled and in conversation with someone on this board I surmised that she really did not have a role model to how the point guard position should be played. Syd was not really a point but actually a shooting guard playing the point. Much the same as Pivec. That morphed into what the role of a point guard is. And that was when I added that Syde was too ball dominate for a point guard and while that worked for the team most of the time, it would eventually cost them. I pointed out that Syd basically carried the team until she hit a cold spell starting with the Pac 12 tournament playoff against Stanford. The team still was able to win the next two against lower ranked teams but her not being able to hit shots killed them against Florida St. She was 0-10 from 3 pt range. I was at that game and felt that Oregon was the better team and should have won had they played smarter. Scott screwed up that game as well. He changed the defense after Oregon St got their big lead. my point was that an offense needs to be balanced and not rely on a player or players to carry them in every game. Sure Syd on most days could have " taken over" because with her quick and odd release, she could get her shot at will. But the Florida game was an example of what can happen to any team that relies on one source of offense and their shots just don't drop. Oregon St had other options they should have gone too, but Syd kept right on shooting bricks. When you go 0- 6 it's time to consider other options. She was effective driving to the hoop and Orum was unstoppable in the block ,but they did not go to her enough. We are not even mentioning the other 3pt shooters who got few if any attempts. Ironically that is the same issue that some fans on this site have with me. I point out that players need to show restraint and attempt to get others involved even when their own shots are dropping, because when the don't the team will not be able to suddenly find the other options. Too much one on one dribbling has been the bane of the team this season. Good teams can game plan to shut that down easily, just like Stanford did. But certain fans see that as contradicting the game plan that allows their fan favorites to put up big numbers.

There were a lot of women's games that were not televised during the first few years of the network. Correct, especially if you were not in the teams demographic area. It wasn't until I got Sling, which has games broadcast from all six regions that I don't miss any games. In my area Comcast had two Pac 12 broadcast channels. Bay Area and a National Broadcast ( which was also sometimes the same as the National broadcast.) I am sure in Oregon you guys got so see quite a lot more Oregon St games than we did. I followed Oregon St before Syd And Jamie even got there and we got very few game down here. I know because I watched ever game that was broad cast.

Chelsea Gray has had a quality pro career after being drafted #11 overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft. I have seen her play for the US National team as well in recent exhibitions.
Gray averaged about 5 assists per game during her collegiate career and 11.1 points per game. Due to OSU's scoring needs, both Wiese and Slocum have been required to shoot and score more than Gray did during her college career. Slocum's assists per game have been close to what Gray produced in college.
I responded to willtalk's post not to discredit him, but to point out this isn't the first time that he chose to explain to OSU fans why Wiese, Pivec, and Slocum were not what he wanted to see in a point guard. I remember the posts that willtalk posted here to point out what he thought Wiese should have done differently as an OSU point guard.
Perhaps Coach Rueck can bring in willtalk to install the team's offense for next season and allow willtalk to train the team's point guards accordingly.
