Colleen Bellotti would be a better candidate for wrestling coach. I've heard she's very poor in the "down" position... prob not a good choice. Not gonna go there.

Just back from running. I can still do an 8:30 mile! Yes I agree, it was/is time for a change. I have fond memories of the coaching staff. As the fan club prez or co-prez for 6 years, then board member for years after that, its hard to not have feelings. My biggest disappointment was not getting a finalist or champion to the Saturday evening finals in Z's era. This is a year of change...I'm facing that reality. No NCAA's for the first time in almost 10 years, my good friend and travel buddy (Lucky) had a serious medical issue, and is on the rebound. I'd always room with Lucky at NCAA's and PAC-s when I went to those. Now a coaching change. My first notion of something that was going on was the last after social vs Little Rock. Both AD Barnes and Dan Bartholomae were at the social. I rode the elevator down to the ground floor of Reser with them and some of the wrestlers. Not a word (of any meaning) was said by the Dept brass. Then walking across Parker Plaza I saw them talking once again when it was only those two. Also Z, wouldn't take questions after his time on the mic at the socials. I don't think he liked being in front and selling the program. I'll opine with a list of guys that I'd like see get a shot or interview. But bottom line, this is a young mans sport. Go for the 'name' of a recent NCAA stud that kids know the name of. That is worth recruiting $ right there. Make sure he likes to: recruit, travel, can win the living room interview with the parents. He also has to surround himself with solid assistants and club coaches that can help him build the program. When Z was first hired, I remember coach Steiner emailing me saying, 'we can build a powerhouse here.' We had 2 top-10 teams, but other than that, it never materialized. Lets support the guys going to NCAA's and hope we get 2 more. Make sure there are no defections of our best guys! Go Beavs! I am excited for the future of osu wrestling with a new coach and direction. To me,the program had stagnated, and a change was needed. Just my uneducated opinion watching the success of the past with coaches Thomas,Johnson, and Wells. I just hope the athletic department gives the new coach(s) the tools to succeed and will pay a competitive salary to the h.c. and staff. I have seen many very good prospects in state prospects go to national schools, and I wonder if a new coach could have landed them? We shall see soon...

Is Zalesky finishing out the season and coaching his 2 wrestlers who qualified for nationals? Or is Zalesky essentially relieved of his duties?

I've heard she's very poor in the "down" position... prob not a good choice. Maybe she is good enough on top that it makes up for the shortcomings in the down position. Points for riding time

side note, its sad this thread has turned to depravity by the way of innuendo. C'mon guys.

As we all know, the season is now done. I thank coach Z for his time, and wish him well in the future. With that said, who has some coaches names to review?

Yes Z did a good job to transition from Wells to establish his program. Moderate success and some set backs too. Troy leaving, then the incident with Roberts created a cumulative effect to where it is now. I too wish him luck. I noticed Mike Ritchey is retiring from SOU. I wonder if Jim puts his name in the hat for that position?
As said earlier, I'd like a younger 'name' coach that kids know and has had proven success as a collegian and on the International freestyle scene. That or a recent head coach that has done a good job at a smaller school. A guy that can build excitement around the program, close the deal on recruiting the best kids in the state, NW and national as needed.
Here are the names I'd like them to consider. (Sadly with NCAA tournament being cancelled, contacting & interviewing these guys will be more difficult)
Kyle Dake – Cornell assistant coach David Taylor – Penn State club team Jordan Burroughs – Nebraska club team, world team member Don Pritzlaff - Rutgers assistant coach Eric Guerrero – Oklahoma State club team Roger Kish – N Dakota State head coach Cary Kolat – Campbell University head coach Casey Cunningham – Penn State assistant coach Josh Rhoden – Clackamas Community College head coach

Re: Colleen ; I understand that she is quite susceptible to the double chicken wing Re: New coach - Coach search - agree on the youth aspect. Also the successful recruiting profile and demographic strength. Almost like starting from scratch given the lack of recent success ! Some great Oregon and Northwest kids have gone elsewhere ! Go Beavers , get it right !

Is the coach who built up the South Dakota State program still there? How about the Wyoming coach who succeeded Steve Studier and did such a great job there?
I know nothing about the above-mentioned club coaches, but I'd like to think we can do better than that. I'd also like to see someone with Pennsylvania/Ohio/New Jersey ties, that's where the talent is.
And best of luck to coach Z. Regardless of his success/lack of success, he's a quality guy.

Good list, Brawler. I think Beaver wrestling supporters would be doing back flips for any of those guys. Burroughs and Taylor would be homeruns, but with them still being world class wrestlers, I don't think they would have interest. The clinic income alone would be hard to match.

There are some who are still active wrestlers though and probably won't have the time commitment. But really really good list. I wouldn't surprise me if the CCC head coach gets it with his roots in the area. I do wonder also if we can lure someone like Eric Guerrero out here. One of the student managers from our team ended up interning for him a while back .

I've heard great things about the CCC coach, but doesn't OSU need a more national name/ recruiter?
Oregon ties aren't enough to build this program when most of the overall talent is midwest/east.
Building a top notch JC program isn't easy, but it's nowhere near what building a highly competitive D1 program.

That national names/former athletes have actually had good success in D1.
