Went to my first basketball game in 48 years yesterday and had a wonderful time. My son and grandson with my daughter and we totally enjoyed the day. I will not comment on the play or mistakes because just being there brought back some good memories plus as I tell friends, about football, if you are not there you miss the atmosphere which can not be duplicated on a nice big screen. Please forgive me but to have 2 members of my family experience their first basketball game was awesome. The fact that we won was hot fudge on the ice cream. Reminded me we all get frustrated about losses but sometimes it is good to step back and enjoy something just for the experience. I explained to my grandson that we all want to win every game but sometimes we simply need to say thank you for being a Beaver and representing OSU. Some of us were athletes at some level or have coached at some level and at least understand in some measure of the effort expended and yet sometimes we forget to simply say, despite the results, thank you for your energy and effort. So I will close by saying to every athlete who has donned an OSU uniform thank you for you effort, the memories you brought and best wishes on your future endeavors.

Thx for the awesome two posts. It was nice to have someone refocus my attention to the positive aspects of being a Beaver alumni and fan.
It is so easy to dwell on the negatives concerning all that is college athletics. Being a "human endeavor" sports are fraught with failure, mistakes, and disappointment. Not that the discussions of such shortcomings will ever cease, but your focus on the joy it brought you and your family was genuinely refreshing and welcome.
Thank you. Return soon.

If you are a “fan”, there will be disappointment due to unmet expectations, heartbreaking and/stunning finishes, or just getting tired of being the whipping pup for the better teams. It’s natural, and comes with the territory when you care about your school and it’s teams. The responses that people have in the down times varies greatly, depending on our personalities and investment in sports, but I would say that most of the time, we are just honestly expressing our feelings and working through our disappointment. Sometimes fans can go over the top in their criticism, and hopefully we can be mature enough to not get stuck in a negative critical rut. Every once in a while, it’s great to get a reminder of the sheer joy of sports. For all the things that are wrong with it - particularly at the collegiate and professional levels - it’s still awesome. Many of us have great memories of our own playing and coaching experiences, and there have been some awesome moments in OSU athletics. Sports has been instrumental in teaching life lessons and a great outlet. Most of all, it’s just a privilege to get to go to a game and experience competition and the atmosphere. Taking our families, seeing my 4 year old granddaughter in a Beaver cheerleader outfit dancing in the aisles, watching kids get autographs and seeing the incredible patience and kindness of our athletes when that happens. It’s exciting and feels like community, and you can’t get that at home, no matter how big the screen. NorthValley’s heartfelt and joyful posts leading into and following yesterday’s game were a nice change of pace and reminder of what a blessing sports can be when you strip it down to it’s purest level. Well done!

Well done! Hoping to try to do the same in Vegas and just enjoy the moment this year. Might be my last trip down for the Pac-12 tournament for a while after making it a mini tradition for the last five years. Hoping to see as many games as possible, and all things willing maybe a Civil War game on Thursday. This season didn't go as planned or the way anyone really wanted it but there's still a chance to see Tres and Kylor (and maybe ET) play in an OSU uniform at least one more time. Oh and I will absolutely be throwing a bet down on the Beavs to win the tournament when I'm down there. I'll look like a genius when it happens and NO ONE will ever forget it
