Fun Game to watch. Was able to see it because it was streamed for FREE! The picture was crystal clear.
Now the Juicy Details
Sr. Transfer Trystan Melancon struck out 10 of the first 11 batters. She was topping out at 66 mph with a killer rise ball. After Hawaii started to adjust she brought in the change up. Great outing. Ended up striking out the last batter of the game to reach 11 k's.
With the game 0-0 in the 5th we loaded the bases and with 2 outs Missy Nunes cleared 'em all. We added one in the 6th to make it 5-0.
In the bottom half of the 6th Hawaii had runners at the corners with 2 out and their stud HR hitter hit a towering fly ball that landed in shallow right center and in between four defenders. The color announcer called it campfire defense. Haa, never heard that one before. Very funny. The runner from 3rd scored and the runner from first tried to score but not-sure-who alertly picked up the ball and threw a strike to the plate for the final out.
I mentioned this might be Berg's worst hitting team in an earlier post but after watching the game I liked what I saw as far as contact, patience. Maybe hits will start materializing. We can only hope.
Two great pieces of info:
*According to the play by play announcer Oregon State has the lowest ERA in the Pac-12 and the 4th lowest in the country. Wow. Contending teams have at least two quality pitchers and we've got two.
*The girls were doing a cheer in the dugout and as the camera panned the players there was Franke Hammoude dressed down chiming in. Great to see.
Tomorrow it's Seattle at noon and Nevada at 2:30.
It's a great day to be a Beaver!

But, dead last in hitting .250... 42 points behind Cal! Definitely a disappointing detail but in the game vs Hawaii last night we didn't strike out and hit a handful of atom balls so hoping for better results. We have a frosh named Ivana Perez who before last night only had eight at bats. I liked how she attacks the ball. Looking forward to watching her more.
