If you were the Beaver's coach, how would you handle the rest of the season?
Would you focus on trying to win as many of the remaining regular season games as possible no matter how much you wear down your limited amount of players on your roster that could actually do that.
Or instead of that would you focus on keeping your best players rested for the PAC 12 tournament and the NCAA tournament by playing them less minutes and experimenting with different lineups in hopes of discovering good combinations and patterns of play that might turn around the downward path we are on.
The fact that we have basically been competitive in every game, would indicated that we do have the potential to win at least one PAC 12 tournament game and perhaps one to two NCAA tournament games.
However, I do not see that happening if the same pattern of turnovers, bad shot selection, poor shooting percentage, and failure to execute at the end of the games continue.
I confess to having no answers that I have any confidence in. I am hoping that some of you will have more inspiration and creativity than I do.
Losing game after game that could have been won really is depressing.

I am certainly discouraged by the outcomes of a number of recent games that the Beavs could not close and hang on for wins. However, I enjoy watching how this team continues to compete and attempts to pull out wins against quality opponents. A few breaks in the five games that we have led in the second half and eventually lost and this team could easily be 22-4 or so instead of 19-7.
I am hoping for a game soon in which we hold a late lead with clean and clutch play down the stretch. Getting that belief back is a big step for a team that has been beset with adversity this season. Stanford will be another big test on the road on Friday.

Keep teaching that it’s about the little things. One less TO, one more made FT, one more box out and it’s a W.
They are farther than that from a deep run without some good luck on matchups, but you keep coaching to the incremental improvements and go from there. They are who they are at this point.

I would hope that the idea of giving up on the rest of the season, or any individual game, would be anathema to both the coaches and players. Instead, you take the position that there's one tough game against Stanford, and then 3 winnable games after that. Try to win all 4 and build some momentum heading to Vegas.

Anybody have any information or insight into why Patricia Morris is being greatly limited in playing time? She appears to me to have reasonable ability, but how can a player develop without being given meaningful playing time? I think that she could contribute down the stretch, and just wondering why that's not happening. Maybe my post here relates to the idea of implementing new and creative offenses. Seems like the other Pac 12 teams have our number.

I'm sure he'd use her if he felt otherwise.

I don’t know how much playing Morris 10-15 minutes would help. Playing Washington 38 minutes sure wasn’t the right answer though

I'm surprised Trish has not shown more improvement in her game this year....She is fairly athletic, but not overly so. She has pretty good hands, but not great. She handles inside passes pretty well. She gets defensive rebounds fairly well. All these add up to a player who should be contributing....
I'm not second-guessing Rueck, that would be pretty dumb. I'm just saying that I expected Trish to be delivering quite a bit more this year than she is showing.....
She has been in the program 2 full years now....She's 6'7 and in women's basketball that's a big deal...... Last year in the Cal game in Berkeley, and the Oregon game in Corvallis she showed genuinely impressive flashes.... At any rate, I've got no big point to make here. I just honestly thought Trish was going to make a far bigger splash this season than she did....
Maybe next year.... GO BEAVS !!

So here's a thing about coaches. If the talent is nominally close, ie if someone is just a little bit better or has a little bit more upside, they tend to value the ability to not make a mistake in a play or defensive coverage a lot more than the ability to make one or two extra plays. I'm not sure if that's what the case is here, but I think that is most likely why SR tends to play Maddie at the 5 a little bit more rather than give those back up minutes to Trish.
I think that worked ok when we had Taya or KB at the 4 to give us some size there, but IMO we are too small now to play Maddie at the 5, I think she has to play strictly at the 4 against most teams. However, maybe there is more seen at practice or on film I"m not privy too.

UCLA's core didn't include a player above 6'1", so Morris likely wasn't the right fit against a team that wanted to push the ball in transition whenever possible.

She was very effective in that game (IIRC OSU was stuck in neutral until Morris and Simmons entered the game and got them going), but has barely seen the floor since.
