There are 351 teams playing D1 women's basketball. Starting tonight's game, we were 336th in turnovers, and adding 24 more is perhaps going to move us down even further. To what do we attribute this? Anybody have any insight?

Isn't this a problem every year? I used to think Wiese was a bit TO prone. Then I figured it was asking a lot for Pivec to play out of position at PG. Now we've had 2 years of Slocum w/ Goodman and Pivec helping out, and still too many TOs too often. It's somehow endemic to Rueck's system. I don't know how else to explain it.

I’m surprised Rueck doesn’t just stroke out over the carelessness of some of those TO’s, How do you teach your players to respect the opponents quickness?

Anybody have any insight? I think that’s our ranking in turnover differential—most because we turn the ball over a lot and don’t force very many. I think we’re somewhere around #150 in D-1 in actual TO’s.

Just plain carelessness and lack of focus...not rocket science...

I guess that would be OK if we were forcing a like number, or even close. But, as it is, we're giving the other guys several more possessions where a shot is actually attempted each game. Tonight's first quarter was maddening.

The Beav's don't play that way. They force a low % shot and get the rebound. Better get used to being maddened.

TO's UCLA 9 OSU 24 Points off Turnovers UCLA 23 OSU 6 Fast Break points UCLA 15 OSU 3 Field goals attempted UCLA 77 OSU 58
A team is just not going to have much success when digging a big hole with these kind of stats. Hopefully they can find some answers before Maples.

FACT: If you give up double digit more FG attempts to your opponent due to turnovers or OREB, you are going to be in deep $hit. Do both in one game, then just give a whole bunch of time to the end of the bench 'cause you have no hope.

There used to be an old adage when your offense is facing pressure: "Fake a pass, to make a Pass."

There used to be an old adage when your offense is facing pressure: "Fake a pass, to make a Pass." Very true. We don't fake our passes enough, especially before we have used our dribble. Our grind it out halfcourt sets allow defenses to get right up in our jerseys and lead to turnovers. OSU offensive schemes contribute to defenses gambling for steals against us. Turnovers would actually be reduced if we played a more attacking style that puts defenses back on their heels.

Football flushes out stagnation and error by changing offensive coordinators; we, too, need fresh OC ideas. Hire a clipboard colonel to scheme with, maybe challenge, our wonderful little general.

I’m surprised Rueck doesn’t just stroke out over the carelessness of some of those TO’s, How do you teach your players to respect the opponents quickness? I think the players are aware of the relative quickness of their opponents. Respecting that quickness isn't the issue. Executing a grind-it-out offense when your opponents are playing up on you is the issue. Creating separation from your defender and moving towards the passer are required constantly. Going backdoor on overplays is needed. Keeping one's dribble alive once started is paramount. Don't do any of the above consistently in a slow halfcourt offense and your team will turn the ball over and your opponent will have plenty of steals. If you don't attack, you will be attacked. When OSU attacked the paint last night, it had more success than when simply passing the ball around the perimeter and looking for an outside shot coming off a screen.
