She is the type of player who would match up really well with a team like SC. Not only is she tall but she is also big. Gymek would have also matched up well. The reason that Washington didn't is that she usually used her size to out physical the opposition. Well the SC had multiple players bigger than her. True, assuming that she can move quickly enough laterally to deal with Jackson, Overbeck, and Pili inside. I would like to see Mitrovic on the court to see what she can do at this early stage of her development, especially noting that she may not stay in Corvallis for 5 seasons. Where is she going to go? Mitrovic hadn't played a game yet in college basketball, and how is she going to recover from her injuries? We don't know, really, how good she is. She is 6-8 or 6-9 and has some talent. Too many unanswered questions imo...

Back home to Serbia is an option. A number of the foreign players in college across this country miss their homes to the point of wanting to head back home when things don't go as hoped. I hope that Corvallis is a great fit for her for 4 or 5 years, but nothing is given as to whether she continues to enjoy being away from her family and friends.

Let's hope Scott can roll out a 6'9", 6'9", 6'7". 6'6", 6'4", 6'3" front line next season. With Trish and Taya being the oldest as Juniors. Even with AA removed, that's an impressive front court!

After watching Kat's recovery, the decision to get stronger, healthier, and time to work on her game sounds like a winning plan.

beav74: I hope your source is correct..... From the beginning I have been apprehensive about Jelena staying in Corvallis for 5 years.... Her probable pro future is in Europe and she won't need 5 years at OSU to earn that job..... I truly hope 5 years with the Beavs is her plan.....But I can't think of any practical reason why it would be, and lots of reasons why it wouldn't.... GO BEAVS !! Well, she looked ready during warm ups the Arizona weekend. But, as rumors go, I've heard two: A)she is planning on playing professionally at home this summer, no surprise. Her stint/level of play will determine her return;(B) she is staying in the US to take classes, get acclimated and build skills here and will only vaca back home for a bit. As of now there is a suggestion each year will be a 50/50 proposition of her returning depending on her development. But, I will say that I heard her tell a small group during a post game "mingle" she would like to be good enough to play American professionally. But, I guess that doesn't really narrow her immediate plan!? But, even assuming Jelena is good to go next year recruiting needs an addition or two. Goforth and Samuel are 6'1" guard/wing types together might match/exceed Mik's output. Those with more roster knowledge help out here: Not even considering AA until something even remotely positive that she could play comes out... Lose: Mik, Maddie, Kat, Thropay... Gain: Goforth, Samuel... Prob loss to RS: Kennedy 5: Taylor, Jelena, Morris 4: Taya, Taylor? 3: Goforth/Samuel, Jaz 2: Aleah, Goforth/Samuel 1: Destiny, Aleah, Mannen Even with Jelena OSU has no other 4 type. I personally see the need for (2) mobile 4 types that can hit the midrange and maybe a three occasionally. And, I'm working all summer with Taylor on a face up game from the FT line in. If she can be a threat in the midrange she and Jelena would be a formidable hi/lo combo. Thoughts?

Taylor definitely needs to develop more of a face up game. She went 4/14 on three pointers in HS as a sophomore, but only 1/4 as a senior, so she has at least shown that she is able to make a shot. It would also be nice to see her be able to put it on the floor from the high post area like Marie did, because it just makes the whole team so much harder to guard.
Goforth can be a crafty scorer. She's really long and can score on all three levels. I really hope that she can kind of come in and become a consistent scorer for us. Jelena can play both high and low post because she screens well and passes well, plus others have noted she seems to have a solid midrange shot in warmups.
The only hope I have for Andrea is the fact that she hasn't been ruled out yet. As soon as the UVA player found out her diagnoses they said her college career was over. With Andrea it sounds more like they are waiting for her to be cleared. Sounds like a MAJOR if/when statement, but maybe that there is still a possibility.

I agree that more depth needs to be sought for the 4 position for next season with the likelihood of a Kennedy Brown redshirt year. Not too long ago Rueck was very good at stockpiling physically strong 6'3" players and had the luxury of having Hunter, Bre Brown, and Orum on the roster along with Hamblin and Gulich at the same time. I remember when OSU could keep bringing 6'3"+ players off the bench and just kept hammering teams on the boards and on defense.
The injuries to Corosdale, Kennedy Brown, Mitrovic, and Aquino have prevented that from happening this season on an even longer scale.
The Beavs likely are already refining their list of potential 4s as grad transfers and will be keeping a close eye on the transfer portal for players that officially are looking for a new home for next season.

Just to piggyback a little bit on Taylor developing to 15 feet, she’s a decent free throw shooter so I can see her developing that as part of her game. She seems like a hard working player that takes coaching well so I imagine her game will develop quite a bit in the next few years.

I saw a quote somewhere that she wants to pattern her game after Gulich and studies film on her. If she were to even get close to the senior year Gulich, including the face-up game, then she will be a formidable player indeed. Rueck may have to play more small ball 4 guard line up next year when TC is off the floor, assuming Brown redshirts.

She seems like a hard working player that takes coaching well so I imagine her game will develop quite a bit in the next few years. It'll take a year or two, but I'm guessing she'll be a far more all around player than this year come her Jr season. She will gain strength and tone... losing some baby fat and gaining muscle, strength, and quickness. Along with that if she develops a face up game from 12-16' and drive capability she'll be one of the best bigs in the Pac12. Although there are so many young bigs it'll be a battle game in game out. The question is, will she? She is far better at this point than Ruthie and Marie... but both made huge strides over their careers. I wish that development was a given, but we all know some players stagnate. Taylor doesn't seem to be in that mold, but she needs help in the backup 5 and in the 4 the next two seasons to help with that development. Sometimes a players development is stagnated because of team needs. They can't develop completely because the team needs them in the low block to have any inside scoring punch. So, whose going to be in the portal we can snare?

Beavers need a superb passer like the girl at Oregon with all these tall girls. I'd look for the best unselfish penetrating guard available.cuz what makes these big kids really excell is the kind of pass they are delivered. You can make an avg post player look good by the kind of pass is delivered. The girl at Oregon can't be the only kid around with those type of skills.

I think that every team could use a passer like her, but they don't come around every year (or ten). OSU has several quality passers on its current roster. Passing could be a strength of this team with the right offense. However, the offense often seems to call for lots of dribbling waiting for shooters to come open off of multiple screens. In contrast, watch Stanford's offense that features lots of passing, backdoor cuts, cuts through the lane, and inside posting to take advantage of mismatches in the paint.
