As the owner of the Astros, Crane stated in his "apology" that the sign stealing didn't effect the games!?
Hmmmm... so why were the Astros doing it if not to effect the game?
Nice media ploy. Let's have a mass news conference and everyone apologize. Never mind some of their previous statements not admitting fault or cheating.

I've been an Astro fan my whole life. As a schoolkid, the loss to the Phillies in the '80 NLCS was monumentally devastating and the loss to the Mets in '86 also crushing.
After winning the world series I was so jacked. Got my gear and wore it with pride. Now, not so much.
I've been ruminating on this entire process lately and thinking how absolutely selfish it was for these wealthy SOB's to do this.
There's people with nefarious ideas out there but you never think said thought will come to fruition 'cuz you got to get enough lackeys to make it work. AND THEY DID!!! Whether the masses went along out of fear, apathy or shared desire it doesn't matter to me. They're all cowards. And sadly, at the end of the day most of them will get in their Lexus and drive home to a plush lifestyle.
This isn't just about getting caught cheating to win. This is also about singeing the souls of fans who invest a great deal of hope and emotion to escape the grind of everyday life and feel apart of something beyond.
No apology will satisfy me until it hits the truest level of destruction which I believe to be the heart of the Astro fan, especially the ones in life that don't have much to hang their hat on.
To borrow and modify a line from the Spartacus series, 'F&%# THEM ALL!'

I grew up a Giants fan and felt the same way after they signed Barry Bonds and his size 10 head. Couldn’t be a fan of them after that.

To borrow and modify a line from the Spartacus series, 'F&%# THEM ALL!' It's the one MAJOR difference between college ball and MLB... the blatant arrogance the permeates the players once they've been up for a time being. It's not 100% by any means, but even those who can stay humble to their roots are effectively cast in that shadow. For the most part they are men playing a kids game for lots of money and for those who are regulars there is a LOT of downtime and boredom during the end of Spring Training and a 162 game regular season. I sometimes wondered if this was a simple shenanigan that caught fire, was then expanded upon and became a team conspiracy when no one of stature told them to stop?! But, on the other extreme is was a organized and methodical exploitation that other teams, management, umpires were well aware of at some point. Maybe there was a cursory, "ya know you guys might want to chill as you are going to get caught", conversation, but seemingly nothing was done to stop this behavior internally or externally. Which leads me to MLB in general. I'm guessing this isn't the only form of cheating going on. Baseball is well known for instances of "cheating" pretty much from it's inception, with sign stealing being a fairly regular occurrence. But, this organized effort supplemented with technology and utilizing several layers and multiple people, resulting in a team winning a championship was the final straw. One that started with rumor, gained a whistleblower to corroborate and grew into a s%#t storm for MLB. A situation that then travelled to at least one other organization, and one I'm positive MLB knew about long before it came into the public consciousness. Mark, Sammy, Barry... different situation but the same in the complicity of MLB. Those and others drew huge crowds and revenue to the game. MLB and those surrounding the individuals knew full well what was going on and it was let slide for "the good of the game". MLB is as corrupt as any multi-billion $ business. EVERY professional league is equally and shamefully dirty... and full of secrets and cheating. It's HUGE $... HUGE. It ain't going to change and so laughable when someone spouts off, "Congress should look into...". Really? Anyway, I've always been a Red Sox and Giants fan... use trip as a family connection and vacas. But, I've never lived and died by any pro team. I own some really nice Sox t-shirts that were a great deal at the Westgate Outlet, but I don't really wear a ton of gear other than OSU garb. Unfortunately the sporting industry, including colleges is rife with cheating and I'm guessing a very very small percentage gets caught, let alone punished. Ignorance is bliss I guess. At least for me it is, as if college sports are ruined I'm going to end up the old guy needing help up the creaky HS bleachers!

The right thing for the Astros owner to do is to forfeit the championship. But like most owners, he's an ego maniac ass that surrounds himself with people that never disagree with him. He actually thinks he deserves that World Series Championship and didn't seem too concerned about apologizing for cheating to get it. He's just sorry they got caught. It didn't appear he even prepped for that nightmare of a press conference yesterday.
The next big scandal will be betting in sports, with gambling now pretty much allowed everywhere on everything, it's only a matter of time before a sport has players fixing games or betting on their own team. It's coming. Will anyone care?

What's MLB going to do if it turns out there were a fair number of other teams using similar tactics. I know the Red Sox are being checked out, and given the way players shuffle around from team to team - I find it hard to believe that there is so much "shock and awe" amongst players. I certainly know my Reds weren't involved, the standings prove it!
I'll never cheer for the Astros again, after this thinking that they were a feel good story if anything. Now they are nothing.

I grew up a Giants fan and felt the same way after they signed Barry Bonds and his size 10 head. Couldn’t be a fan of them after that. Been a Giants fan my whole life; there is no professional franchise in any sport that I like better. Growing up, I saw many cold games in Candlestick watching the Giants strive for mediocrity season after season until Will Clark came along. I was in Corvallis taking practice cuts in front of the TV when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit and the TV went blank. Then they were swept by the hated A's...
Bonds was tough to stomach and you're right about his head. When the Giants finally won the Series in 2010, one of my second thoughts (after YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!) was, "I'm glad that they never one with Bonds." Even with 'roids infecting a lot of players in the league when Bonds was taking them, it still bothered. But just as bad was his locker room behavior...it was no secret that he was a cancer in the locker room and such an egomaniac that the other good players on the team, notably Jeff Kent, were soon out of there.
But every sports franchise has dark years and it was east to slip right back in to loving the Giants when he was gone. 2010, 2012, and 2014...those were the best seasons of professional sport in my life. When I moved to San Diego in 2012, I saw a couple Padres games against the Giants. "Take me out to the Ballgame" was played during the 7th inning stretch and when the line "Root, root root for the home team" was sung, there were so many Giants fans there that "root, root for the GIANTS" replaced the lyrics. Beautiful.
Go Giants!! Beat l.a.!

I was with you until you got to Jeff Kent. I had always heard he was a jackass. He comes in #10 on this list. Whom should I believe? bleacherreport.com/articles/1141348-most-despised-teammates-in-baseball-history

At least during Spring Training he was an ass to fans when he left games in the early inning and walked by to the clubhouse. Almost every guy would sign balls, or drop off batting gloves, etc. Kent was far too cool for that the years we saw him.
