A few bumps in the road are in store for all college baseball programs. I happened across this year old article from SB Nation and laughed. The article mentions 6 early commits in the OSU 2020 class. It Abel signs following the MLB draft, we will have gone 0 for 6 on the article.
Abel - MLB Draft
Susac - Arizona
Haas - Arizona State
Hansen - San Diego State
Soderstam - UCLA
Watson - Cal Poly-Pomona
SB Nation: Beavs Get 2020 Verbal Commit
Outfielder/RHP Luke Watson of Glendora, CA will be a Beaver.
On Monday afternoon, the Oregon State baseball program picked up the sixth commitment of it’s 2020 recruiting class. That came from 16 year old Luke Watson of Maranatha High School in Glendora, California The 5’11”, 160 pounder has been timed at 6.94 seconds in the 60 yard dash. His throw from the outfield has also been gunned at a velocity of 72 mph.
Watson plays his club ball with San Gabriel Valley Arsenal, which develops players from all over the Southern California area. In 2016 alone, 84 SGV Arsenal alumni were playing baseball at four year schools, 58 reported to MLB Spring training, and 6 made major league rosters.
Recently, Watson’s SGV Arsenal team took second in the Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic, one of the premier high school baseball tournaments in the country. Watson’s team also took bronze in the 15U USA Baseball West National Team Championships back in July. To be in a position where you can commit to a D1 program after your sophomore season is impressive. With two more years still until we see him in Corvallis, it will be interesting to see how he continues to develop.
The other commitments in OSU’s 2020 class include RHPs Mick Abel and Nathan Hansen, catchers Tyler Sodestrom and Daniel Susac, and shortstop Hunter Haas.
