The Beavs are looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Sun Devils on Friday. What will it take? 1) Shoot 45% or better from field 2) Match ASU's physicality with toughness of our own 3) Limit turnovers to 12 or less 4) Win the rebounding battle by 5 or more 5) Attack the paint to get Jones some quality looks inside 6) Make 8 or more three-pointers on 20 or fewer attempts 7) Limit ASU to 55 points or less 8) What else?
What do you think will be the most important factors in OSU earning a win on Friday (other than simply outscoring ASU)?

No starters getting in foul trouble, especially Jones.
Shoot well and don’t give a bunch of extra possessions to ASU on turnovers or offensive rebounds. I see turnovers as key.

UCLA and Arizona both beat them recently. Mostly they need to be tough, physically and mentally. Get a bit nasty. Don't back down. I know that doesn't really jive with some of the Beavs, but enough of getting pushed around and losing to the Devils.

All good ideas.
Missing the only one we as fans have control over.... we need to show up in mass to support our girls.

ASU will be physical and will set a number of screens that will border on being legal. The closer a Beav can stay to the person she is guarding over the top of screens, the more pressure there will be for the refs to call a few illegal screens. The Beavs know what is coming physically on Friday. They should be prepared to keep moving as they are being held on cuts to the basket in order for the holds to be more apparent. Time to defend the home court.

- More Trish and Maddie. Bring them in and have them lean hard on their defenders at both ends, wear out those legs. Also, set some hard screens. Make a few fouls count. I like to see them in 2 min bursts for 12-18 mins total. Yes, that means fewer mins for Kennedy and Taylor, but getting Taylor 20 mins vs. a more fatigued defender is a better bet then 30 mins of a fatigued Taylor.
- Give Simmons and Mannion even more minutes, and have them go out and run full-bore off screens like Steph Curry does (in circles), making their defenders full-on chase and fight through traffic. Do it in bursts for few mins, then bring back in Kat/Aleah/Destiny to go back in against more fatigued defenders.
The idea with physical play is that if you can wear out the opposition's legs, they won't be able to shoot, and will lose their fight. ASU throws 10 players into the game trying to do this, and it's a lot tougher for 6-7 players to absorb 1.5x the opposition's energy (Damian Lillard-types excluded). Jas played 2 mins last game, and Trish 0 - that was a huge mistake IMO, and played right into their hands. Yes, Trish and Jas probably will not help (and likely hurt) the TO numbers, but we cannot have Aleah, Destiny and Mic playing the whole time vs. fresher legged defenders and not expect a repeat of their shooting performance.

There is some merit to starting a designated "bruiser" to use 5 fouls to frustrate key player(s) on an opposing team. Not that I'd know!? 🤔😉

Didn't notice that first time through; my bad. So I'll make a legitimate suggestion. Spend some time in practice this week on beating the press. I don't know how much ASU does that, but I'd guess they'll at least try it some after seeing us not handling it well in the last 5 minutes against Utah.

I agree with a "designated bruiser" - we've not fared well against really physical teams - and a few more "javelin tosses" by the Mik would be nice, as long as she gets them off with time on the clock

CTT could get laryngitis and not be able to work the refs like she does. That'd help. Other than that....move the ball well and sub out like she does to keep fresh legs on the court.
