Pfennings looked great. Burns had good stuff, had a bit of trouble locating at times. Ryan Brown was able to throw strikes in relief while Washburn initially struggled with that. He did settle down a bit as he threw more. Lattery looked good. Loved Murphys presence on the mound, but he got hit fairly hard. Something tells me he will get better, much better.
Micah McDowell hit the ball sharply and consistently, as he does every time I see him. Wyatt Young had an impressive BP and played left field for what looked to be the first team. Dukart got a look at shortstop, I do not think the battle for that position is resolved. Ober played a respectable third base and hit the ball hard and deep to center on one occasion only to have it chased down by Melton. I could be off the mark on this, but it looks like Valero Sanchez is winning the battle for first base. Claunch looking solid behind the plate and at bat. Both McMahan and Jones hit balls hard to the right center gap for extra bases. Casey continues to be solid in the field and at the plate. Justin Boyd laid down a perfect bunt for a base hit, the speed to first surprised me.

Thanks very much your notes and observations. This may be our most ‘anticipated’ start to any past season. Really appreciate it !

Thanks for the update. Great info. Any notes on second base? Mascarenas played there with the first group. Harvey looked good at the plate in the fall. I do not believe that either he or McGarry participated in the scrimmage yesterday.

On paper, McDowell and Boyd seem to be the two fastest players on the roster. Boyd has run several timed 60's in Camps and Showcase events in the 6.5 range. The latest I saw was from a Perfect Game event - a laser timed 6.54.
McDowell recorded some similar times in Canada including a 6.55 at the BIG 12 Provincial championship in Toronto.
McMahan, Casey, Jones, Meckler and Mascarenas all get down the line in a hurry but Boyd and McDowell appear to be your F-35's this year.

56Chevy great update! Valero Sanchez at first base? Wow...That's interesting news. Nothing like having a middle infielder glove at 1st base.
btw it is supposed to be 74 degrees in Surprise AZ tomorrow.

Some scouts questioned his footwork at short or second. Saw several reports projecting him at left or right field. Didn't see any
reports questioning his bat.
