In response to the post about contracts/years left...
As of Oct, 2019: contract runs thru... (rank in terms of yearly pay nationwide). Of course there are a couple newer coaches with brand new contracts that have termination years set without extensions.
(#3 @ $5.5 mil) MC @ucla 2025... coach and school buyouts are equal $15-19 mil depending on year (#12 @ $3.77 mil) LK @utah 2023... coach buyout $2.4 mil... school $3 mil/year left (#18 @ $3.125 mil) DA @ucks 2026... coach buyout $3-4 mil depending on year... school prorated of the $24.5 mil total contract dependent on being hired by certain leagues/NBA (#27 @ $2.8 mil) SM @zona 2022... coach buyout $0 since less than 3 years remain... school 50% of remaining contract (#31 @ $2.5 mil) MH @uw 2025... coach $6 mil unless AD no longer there, then 50% of remaining... 100% of remaining contract (#38 @ $2.2 mil) BH @asu 2024... coach $2.5-$3 mil depending on year... school 100% of prorated contract (#39 @ $2.167 mil) WT @osu 2024... coach $750k... school after this season 100% of $8.7 mil (#45 @ $1.8 mil) TB @col 2024... coach $500k thru June of 2021... 100% of remaining contract (#47 @ $1.6 mil) MF @cal 2024... coach $2-3 mil depending on year... 100% to 25% of contract depending on year (#51 @ $1.4 mil) KS @wsu 2025... coach $2.8-4.2 mil depending on year... 60% of remaining contract
This is a composite of info seen on two lists. There are several. SC and Furd are private and not listed. Interesting that the whole "who could OSU get for what we pay" is kinda a fallacy since we currently have the 39th ranked HC salary.

I'll only add that support doesn't have to mean extensions. Unless you have a guy that you REALLY love and want to keep, even extensions will not help. There is always a buyout and if a school really wants him they'll pay for it. The other issue... in 32 years of coaching kids who went to various levels of college play, not one... ZERO... ever inquired about the coach's contract or if he was going to be around their entire playing career. I think other schools may use it in recruiting, but it is not something most kids will analyze too deeply. They are going to pick the school that fits them best and that almost always centers on PT... or the promise of PT. The first WT extension was far too premature even with the dance appearance. If WT was getting inquiries after Year 2 here... let him go for it. But, with Tres already at OSU he wasn't going to not coach him. He wasn't going to have him need to transfer/sit out. He was going nowhere... IF there was even suitors at that time?! The latest extension was even worse. I doubt WT has any suitors, at least equal to OSU, secretly courting him. He is losing the team's best player, maybe the top 2, and definitely the only active big. He has much to prove before this AD put the school under this financial arrangement. BUT, he did. That is on Barnes. Hopefully the new President finds the time for a thorough overview of the department and how funds are being allocated. So, if you're firing WT, I assume you have the next coach picked out according to you're parameters, how many years do you give them to make the dance, 1, 2, 3, (5 seems too many) and we do it again?? What exactly are your expectations for how long they have to make the dance?? Do you have a post that fits the thread? Supporter? Detractor? And what would flip the script for you?

The lost weekend in Washington has me reeeeeeeallllly close to flipping Obviously I need to see where we end up this year, maybe WT and the team turns it around and gets to the NCAA tourney and I will settle back into my nice warm and worn seat on the bandwagon My bias is that I WANT WT to succeed, and I WANT to be on he bandwagon, but the thing driving me toward flipping is the incredible inconsistency in play. It is systematic, and not just this year. - We see stretches of good, even beautiful offense. Everyone is moving, the weave is working and the 5 guys on the court look like they understand what is going on. The result is a good open shot or a shot at the rim. Of course then we see long stretches where it doesn't look like the team even knows what the round orange thing in their hands is. I am not talking about the stretches of play where the offense works and a player gets a good shot or a layup and they miss, hat htappens to every team. I am talking about the large swath of times where after an offensive set you just stare blankly and confused at the action wonder WTF the point is.
- We see stretches of a suffocating zone or tight man to man defense, and then we see stretches where the other team is running a layup line, smh. Again, I am not talking the normal, other team gets hot and can't miss and they hit a bunch of contested threes or call the right offensive play for the defense we have set up and get an easy score, or even an opponent is physically overpowering or out playing an individual or the team. I am talking about the 10 minutes a game where we seem to not play any defense at all.
- I expect every year for there to be a couple surprising losses and a couple of surprising wins, but in general I should be pretty confident in handicapping a win or loss. However with this team under WT I feel like I can NEVER get a good gauge on who we actually are.
- At least we are consistent with rebounding.... we just suck at that
I think a lot of this boils down to effort from the players... Both physical and mental. I don't mean that the players are lazy, or don't WANT to work hard. And in fact I think they DO work hard, but I wonder if at this point WT has coached and harped and cajoled so much that there is a lot of paralysis by analysis going on? That also jives with how hard it seems to be for young guys to work in to the team?
To be specific: To stay a supporter of WT, CONSISTENCY is what I need to see. Of course with consistency I believe this team has the talent to still make the postseason To Flip and become a full fledged detractor... Continue to see the inconsistency and finish this year below .500 in the pac-12 schedule.

Yet in the last three games we have rebounded significantly better and outrebounded or been even with the opposition. So we can't even suck consistently either

WT needs to walk away at the end of season. There are better coaches out there but will have to rebuild the team from scratch with new coach. It works with WBB.

Whenever OSU does hire, the $2.2 million standard is now the 39th highest pd D1 coach in the land. The who can we get with what we pay cry is BS.

Ok... so no one or group on here is getting WT fired. No one or group on here will help him keep his job if it comes to an end. So, what about eliminating all the fire him, who should we hire, the long suffering past, school to school/coach to coach comparisons... pretty much any opinion of what has come before today. My query is for both WT supporters and detractors. No matter your stance at the moment what would it take from the OSU basketball program to flip your script on WT as the head coach? I know it could require some to eat their words. Some to become a type of frontrunner. As pointed out in the poll thread it isn't an easy question... winning seasons in Pac12 play are tough over time. NIT or better is equally or more difficult.... although just because others are lacking being a top 100 team every year seems like a given expectation. But, it doesn't necessarily say some committee will select you. So for you, what is your stance and what would cause you to change your tune? You can now consider me a detractor.

Holy cow. What a crap weekend. Girls lose both to the *ucks, boys looked like girls playing men in both of their games, and 9 people lose their lives in a tragic accident. I am half tempted to write off the rest of this MBB season as lost and invest in something good for my health.... Like whiskey, fried foods and meth.... As stated above I was already holding on to the band wagon by my fingernails... It would take an epic, incredible finish to the year to get me back on at this point. Like go 9-1, 10-0 down the stretch, and/or win the pac-12 tourney. Both of which probably earn us a post season of some sort. I put the odds of either at 0% (not even Lloyd Christmas likes those odds ) Just getting back to .500 in pac-12 play (7-3 down the stretch), would be a miracle. I put the odds of that at 5% (So you are SAYING THERE'S A CHANCE!!!!) Sigh.... I am sad... on many fronts Some one pass the whiskey
