Just wondering if this current team is one of those that "the sum of the parts is less than the whole".
In other words, it would appear that the team has really good talent at virtually every position, yet seems to not be achieving the results that would indicate that.
Is it "over rated talent" or "a group that does not work real well together" or "the rest of the league has gotten better while we have remained somewhat the same".
Certainly the team is very competitive and will win their share of games. However I do not expect them to go beyond the sweet sixteen at best unless something changes significantly.
Somehow in a year or so we have gone from being an excellent 3 point shooting team to far less than that!

Ranked #7 as of today. This team is fun to watch and support. Let's maybe consider some more positive conversations.

Not sure if the team work is as good as it has been in the past. Every team says they work good together but does everyone totally trust everyone else to defend, score or finish a play. That could keep that one extra pass from occurring?

I did not intend to be negative in my post. As fans we are very fortunate to have such an excellent coach and great team.
That being said, I still stick by my view that without significant improvement at best the Beavers will be a sweet 16 team. Also given how often we have barely squeaked by in the first round games at our own building that may be optimistic.
It appears that this year with the talent we have that we ought to often be able to get out, fast break and score quickly at least some of the time.
That however does not appear to be Coach Rueck's style. I believe that the constant grind it out close games that result can result in wearing a team down physically and mentally by the end of the year.
Again, in closing I am a Beaver believer 100%, but I enjoy the give and take that this forum allows!
Go Beavers!

Being ranked in the Top 10 is special. I believe that when Oregon blew the doors off Stanford, it might have falsely raised the hopes of the fans that we had a win against #3 coming on Sunday. Instead Stanford played hard, being a good team they knew they didn't want to be swept in the state of Oregon.
Yes, I saw things we could do better but I think this conversation starts with realistic expectations playing a very good Stanford team who was embarrassed by the yucks in game 1 of the road trip.
Long season to go and the best news is the National Champion will be decided on the floor!
Go Beavs!

They aren't.
Because either are how games play out... what is let go can't be if it becomes a regular. Physical play has to be controlled but is part of the game. So what seems like a change in calls, is sometimes just a reaction to a change in play. Add, that some rules have become almost non existent... Euro-step my ass... used to be travelling. Carrying... now hand can be below the midline of the ball... Officials, like players, have off nights. Some make a horrendous call or two. But, for the most part they don't suddenly ignore rules... "call game differently" to me is saying they blatantly ignore or stop ignoring violations to give a team the advantage. I think games change tempo and physicality and officials and team adjust. The team that doesn't or can't is in trouble.

The team that doesn't or can't is in trouble. I remember reading the autobiography of former NBA ref Earl Strom. He wrote that sometimes when a game seemed a little too routine he’d intentionally make a bad call or two against the home team just to get the crowd and coaches worked up and bump his own adrenaline up a few notches. I’m not anti referee. They are essential to the game and they try to be impartial. But they are imperfect human beings too.

others have pointed out that we are doing pretty dam great so far this season. I think we will be limited by the youth/inexperience of our bigs this year.

When you say “the sum of the parts is less than the whole” isn’t that the same as “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts” (W>P = P<W)? And isn’t that generally considered a good thing? Perhaps you mean “the whole is less than the sum of the parts”?

We're 8 minutes of not making shots from being 18-0 at this point. Defensively, we're 3rd in the nation in opponent's FG% (up from 8th a week ago),9th in scoring defense (up from 11th), 3rd in rebounding margin (up from 4th), and still 13th in blocked shots. All very, very solid.
Our woes have been on the offensive end, mainly that part of the end that is outside the 3 point line. That, folks, is our one and only problem. We have fallen over the last several weeks from 9th in 3 point FG% to 42nd and, consequently, from 13th to 44th in scoring per game. We're still 11th overall in total FG% however.
I'm sure the coaching staff is aware of this, and that they are endeavoring to make fixes. (I cannot resist stating that, if I were the coaches, I would tell Ms. Brown that the only time she is allowed outside the 3 point line is when running from one end of the floor to the other.)
I remain very positive. I don't think we're going to win the conference, but I do think we've got a good shot at winning the conference tournament. And I also envision a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
