sewingbeaver - - good tip on the Pac-12 stats site....Lot's of good info to be found there.. Interestingly, Beavs 3rd in conference in average attendance (behind Arizona & Oregon).... Perplexingly, near the bottom of the conference in FT shooting...Hope that turns around seriously in January.... GO BEAVS !! The attendance numbers listed for us are incorrect. They show total attendance of 40,226, and an average of 4,023. That would, obviously, mean 10 home games thus far, but we've only had 7. Actual total attendance is 38,031, which equates to an average of 5,433 - significantly higher than 4,023. Through 7 games last year, we averaged 5,301. During conference play, we averaged 6,275, which included the 9,301 against the Ducks. We didn't play Stanford at Gill last year, and will probably sell that one out - especially if both teams are undefeated at that point. Two sellouts and an average of, say, 5,500 against the other 7 conference schools would put average attendance for those 9 games at 6,345. If we keep winning and survive the early season gauntlet, however, we'll be fighting for the conference championship and a number 1 seed. That will push those attendance numbers up higher yet. Arizona is to be applauded for their attendance numbers thus far. Last year, they only averaged 2,203, and even their perennially more successful neighbor, Arizona State, only pulled in 3,062. Maybe the Arizona fan base has noticed that one of their basketball coaches doesn't pay players to come in and be a one and done. They got to enjoy Cate Reese as a freshman and, son of a gun, she's actually back again as a sophomore.

Barring a let down by the Beavs, the Beavers should be undefeated going into Arizona on January 10th. Arizona, who is currently 11-0, begins their Pac-12 season this Sunday, the 29th at Arizona State. They then travel to the USC and UCLA. That game on the January 5th against UCLA will be one to mark on your calendar.
Five days later, it's the Beavs in Arizona, and you can expect a huge crowd for that game with a top 5 team coming to town. It will be the first shot for the Beaver freshmen at a road game with a roaring crowd against them. No, I didn't forget Miami, but the attendance of that game was 1336. Expect a much bigger and louder crowd for the Beaver/Arizona crowd. How the Beaver freshmen handle this game may determine the winner. The Beaver guards versus McDonald will also be interesting to watch.

I've watched McDonald a couple times this year (on TV) and she is every bit as good as last year - maybe even improved....Not sure how Coach will defend her. I don't think we have anyone who can handle her straight up. She can first-step beat anyone we match up against her....She can drive and dish or drive and finish - whichever is available...I have a sneaky feeling the Beavs will throw a lot of zone at them (after one quarter of man)....
Should be an exciting game..... January's gonna be a do-or-die month for the Beavs this season...They face Arizona on the road Jan. 10th, then they square up against 3 top 4 teams in an 8 day stretch from the 19th to the 26th.... GO BEAVS !!

The only thing missing from McDonald's game is a reliable 3 pointer, and she doesn't appear to be much improved in that department from last year. She can certainly hit them, but not at a very high clip.

That's one reason why I think Rueck zones this team.... GO BEAVS !!
