I fail to see how comments about the less than stellar performance of John Doe and the folks in marketing translate to one being a "supposed fan" of Mikayla Pivec and the folks on the basketball team. They're 2 very separate things, are they not? I also fail to see how any comments translate to spinning the sellout as bad news. Matter of fact, if you had bothered to look at the initial comment that ultimately sent this thread off on a tangent, you will note that the first three words, which referenced the game being sold out, were, "That's good news." I think the Athletic Department does a poor job of marketing an excellent product. That has nothing whatsoever to do with what I think of the product itself. I also think you have a tendency to read much more into things than actually are there, as you did several months ago when I joked that Ron Callan could sing, "California, here I come" for Kat Tudor on Senior Day to keep his string of foreign national anthems going. You should work on that. Take a few minutes to think things through before jumping in. Well said. Some here get upset about any type marketing discussions. I think you are just implying the marketing aspect could be better. I don't know why there is disagreement with that take you have on marketing. I agree with you.

Good lord, I had forgotten about your asinine idea how to insult our players from California on their Senior Days. If that’s your idea of how to market OSU WBB we can all productively disregard anything you might offer on that subject.

Good lord, he just reminded us of that JOKE he made about the Californian anthem, and that it was a JOKE (and a good one then, as I recall, as it still is a good JOKE) and you seem to think that's his idea of how to market OSU WBB. I, for one, will continue to productively regard his JOKES as JOKES and not confuse them as useful ideas - only as JOKES.
LUF
It's the frickin' holiday season - let's all sit back a bit, take our time to digest things, and try to be a bit merrier.
Also: Go Beavs!

I might consider it a joke if I didn’t admire Kat and Janessa as much as I do. A “joke” about dishonoring them in their Senior day isn’t funny to me. FYI all four of OSU WBB’s Seniors this season are from out of state. If some poster has a hard-on about any of their home states that’s his issue, not Mik’s or Maddie’s or Janessa’s or Kat’s, and he should leave them out of his grudge.

Oregon State draws better than most every other women's team in America. I assume they know what the heck they're doing.

It would be interesting to see the rankings adjusted/normalized for the population density around it. I think Oregon State would be pretty high on the list... and USC and UCLA would be even lower than they are. Though... it is possible that the smaller communities could draw more fans because there are fewer alternative sources of entertainment in and around the community; this probably would not often outweigh other factors though... like program success.

OSU was 16th in average attendance last year with 5438. U of O was 8th with 7148. #1 attendance was South Carolina with 10406. FWIW.

After her departure, their numbers regressed to the mean. I expect similar (not identical of course) phenomenon for the *ucks after their greatest-by-far-player-in-program-history leaves.

Don’t think any of us know when their all triple double leaves. If they stay good they will draw. I hate that place but it has perks. Perky types will go there.

It was just a 1 year spike during her Sr. year, I think a combination of her chasing the scoring record and the team going to the Final 4 the previous season. Even then it was about 4000, good but not great. They had their first ever sell out for the Stanford game that year and the 2 Tourney games they hosted drew well.
UW used to have good fan support in the early/mid 2000s (I perused NCAA site, they pulled in almost 5000 in '02-'03 and about 4200 the next season) but had been on a long slow downward trend.

Especially now that, excluding illegal immigrants, more people are leaving the state than coming in due to the financial difficulties and breakdown of the infrastructure. Thats not even considering that it is not even the state song. I know that as a Californian I would no longer feel safe posting on this site if that were to happen. Thats not even the degree of counseling I would have to undergo to promote my emotional healing.
