I saw the women play last night in Gill for the first time this season, and to say that I was impressed is understatement. I have read about the maturity of Jones for this early, and she didn’t disappoint. She is so strong, and has really good hands, and was a great finisher. Her footwork and general ability in the pick and roll were so encouraging to see. That was missing blatantly last year, and Taylor and Kennedy both have great fundamentals. This makes the loss of Taya much more bearable, even if the thought of all 3 of them playing together this year would be amazing. Hopefully Taylor will keep working on free throws, because she is going to be a force.
Kennedy was also sharp and versatile. She was really tough on the arc, and very active. She will also be a force to deal with moving forward. She also played very good defense. Both of them were disruptive in the paint.
It was really fun watching Destiny facilitate with both of these young women. Her creativity set up several easy buckets, and you could tell that she really trusts these two. Last year, I could tell that she wanted to go inside with the ball, but confidence was not high that the ball would be caught cleanly and/or that we could threaten in the low post offensively.

That was an important game for Kennedy - going above 50% from deep at volume means she will garner heavy respect out there. No team can afford risking her doing that to them, particularly unchallenged.
Those frosh have taken a lot of minutes from Morris, but it was good for Morris to remind us that she will be very valuable against teams with very physical bigs. She absorbed a wicked elbow in this block (should have been an offensive foul - had that elbow landed on her chin instead of her upper arm, it could have been ugly), and she just powered right through it.

Morris was really fighting for position under both baskets, for the most part she held her own against much heavier opponents. There were elbows flying both ways.

Morris needs to keep improving (obviously) by adding a couple offensive moves/plays besides just a layup/lay in. She won't see her court time increase unless she can play D AND score too.
