Kennedy has a nice well rounded game, but she does make a lot of freshman mistakes. I know she has to be near the top of the team in turnovers, but as she gets used to the speed of the game, that should improve. TOs are fairly evenly distributed among the starters. Slocum and Brown both have 22 and the other 3 starters have 16 or 15. Beavs have 28 more TOs than their opponents thru 8 games. That is a bugaboo that consistently seems to be a problem. They had 10 in the first half last night, then only 5 in the second half. With an efficient offense it just feels like they are giving points away when they turn the ball over.

I believe only one of Taylor’s fouls were defensive. One was on a moving screen and one was her clearing out a defender for a post up. She had some really nice moves, and once she expands offensively, she will really tough to stop because of how well she understands the game. How many freshman do you see leaning on their defender to get a feel for which side they should go to? Taylor's moving screen foul wasn't all her fault, the guard didn't wait for her to get set. Great point - I don't know why this is, but our guard's use of the screen has regressed from last season, and that should be a surprise since basically the exact same guards are handling the ball.... Now last season we had some set plays where Jo or Maddie would position themselves at the corner of the key, hunched over, hands on knees (probably to make it plain to Pac-12 refs that they were *not* moving), and the guards would do a blow-by, either to the rim or for a short pull up, rubbing their defender off of this very static player.......I've only seen that play once or twice this season thus far. The guards are leaving too much separation between them, the defender and the screener, and they are also not letting the screener get set before they start moving. And then on plays when the guards do all of that well, our frosh feel compelled to impede the defender, whether they are set in position to do so or not :-). The real point I am making is that we have areas where we can still make lots of (perhaps dramatic) improvement, and we are talking about a top-5 team. Go Beavers!

The issue with the OSU Turnovers in the 1st half was most of them were "unforced". Those are the turnovers that need to be eliminated.

There's a lot to like about Jone's game, especially as a freshman. If I were her trainer, an area I'd work on is trying to develop her "hops". She's not much of a jumper. With her height and wingspan, if she could get even another 6-8" on her vertical , she'd be able to just go right over the top of most every player she faced offensively. She'd be tough for anyone in the low post. Taylor jumps pretty well in this play (one of my favorites against Hawaii):

Getting a physically fit, in-shape 6'4 girl of 19 to add 6-8 inches to her vertical jump would be damn near impossible...It may have happened somewhere, sometime, somehow - but I've never heard of it.......More likely to happen with men players, but even for them it would be an amazing increase..... GO BEAVS !!

This tweet seems to indicate Kat is getting her "hops" back: (and they are working on Taylor's already long arms? :-).
Note Jelena in the background, looks like someone might be redshirting? At the very least not working on her hops yet.... And I also noticed AA has quit warming up with the team (at least this last game), and was hanging out with the "walking wounded" (Taya/Jelena).
Go Beavers!

Agree there as well - I don't know if there is a video out there of this game - there were *several* entry passes into Trish that left much to be desired, and in real time I couldn't decide if it was the fault of sender, receiver, both, or good defense.......Back door cuts where the cutter never arrived.....I also wanted to figure out what was happening out at the arc that limited all but Kennedy from many 3 point attempts (though the way many guards were shooting, perhaps it was a good thing). 40% free throwing won't cut it a few games from now either, while we are picking nits. Hopefully it was just impending finals - next Saturday's game, with the term behind the team, should be telling. Go Beavers!

No knee brace on Kat while working out? Interesting. To my untrained eye it looked like Kat was moving better vs Hawaii last night. But wadda I know

Go Beavers! Zooming in, that doesn’t really look like Jelena to me. As I had posted earlier, she is approaching the 4 month point, which is supposedly the high-end of the recovery time from arthroscopic surgery (to regain the ability to play sports). I still hoping we see her warming up soon; if not, I’m concerned that there may be some residual effect from the injury. I’m very excited to see what she brings to the team and believe she can make a valuable contribution if she does not redshirt.

GO BEAVS !! Exactly, most men couldn’t increase that much either. A couple of inches maybe, but 6-8 when they’re fully grown would be ridiculous

That photo of Kat doing the plyo jumps is from before practice even started. I think that photo is at least 3 months old. Most of the photos posted from the Rueck twitter account are not recent photos.
