Check out the helmet he is wearing. If they were still worn today, targeting would not be an issue.

Loved the Nerf football, but so did my dog. More often than not, I was playing catch with a severely bitten ball.

I threw my Nerf football so many times as a kid, I'm really not sure why I still have a UCL.
My dog would destroy ANY toy he got his teeth on, so it was my #1 priority to keep the Nerf out of his jaws.

My dogs wouldn't eat the ball but I had a cat that was lethal to anything foam. Fortunately she didn't go for people furniture but the dog beds were fair game.
The football was really fun as a kid, so was nerf basketball played indoors. Boy those games could get rough.

My dad graduated from Washington HS (in Portland) in 1949. He talked about making the varsity as a junior and got the new plastic helmet instead of a leather one. There were still no face masks.
