I happen to think Kennedy Brown was just as instrumental of a contributor to OSU WBB's success this past week. Kennedy & Taylor are both outstanding freshman, and hate to see Kennedy's contributions overlooked.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a FOTW award primarily based upon a players defense. She does a great job of keeping her hands straight up. Her minutes so far say a lot about what SR thinks of her defense. She needs to clean up her passes and unwise fouls. I think she is also still adjusting a bit to the speed of the game.

Taylor ‘not a project’ Jones has made a great early season contribution.
Brown, with her defense has ALSO made valuable contributions - even more important now with Taya injury.
If (and more likely WHEN), Brown gets her outside shooting a bit more on track, she’ll earn her share of recognition.

411500, if you haven't seen this before, they do this every week based on performance that week. Just an opinion, but interesting to read none the less. As the saying goes though, take it with a grain of salt.

We can learn a lot about Taylor's game next week when she matches up against U. Miami's Beatrice Mompremier - a 6'4 redshirt senior. Mompremier is considered one of the nation's elite post players...She has height, volume and experience - all of which she will bring to bear against rookie Taylor...Plus Mompremier will be playing before a home crowd in her own time zone...
This "game within a game" will be fun to watch. I'm curious to see if Jones will be able get off her elevated "catch and release" shots that she has been making all year against opponents less imposing than Mompremier....
Another thing I plan to watch for: Jones gets rid of the ball in a hurry - a real hurry; because of her quick release she might draw fouls that Mompremier does not want to give...It's very possible that Mompremier will find herself in foul trouble before Jones....
On the other side of the coin (defense) it will be interesting to see if Jones can hold her own against Miami's best, and a future WNBA player..... GO BEAVS !!

I don't have high expectations of Taylor outshining Mompremier on Mompremier's home floor, but I'll be happy with a solid performance.
You hit one nail right on the head though. The quick release of Taylor. We've heard a lot about how Taylor keeps the ball high, but not a lot of references to her quick release. I don't think I've ever noticed a player put the ball up so fast once catching that inside pass. That is going to pay a lot of dividends in her career.
Kennedy Brown is a great player as well, but if you watch comparisons of Kennedy and Taylor on those inside shots, there is a noticeable difference. I remember two inside shots by Kennedy against Missouri State. She made one, and missed one, but both times she came down with the ball and then went back up with her shot. Taylor just keeps her arms high and puts it right back up. I'm not being negative about Kennedy here. In fact, I think she'll learn from Taylor. Kennedy is definitely the better shooter when further from the basket, and a better ball handler as well. They are going to be fun to watch for 4 years!

Might be worth looking at game tape of ASU vs. Miami in the 2nd round of the Tourney last year. Devils held Mompremier to 6 point on 3-12 shooting (she did have 22 rebounds though).

Endyia Rogers, freshman guard for USC scored 20 points tonight in a 10 point loss to Texas A&M. I'm not sure how other freshman have done this week, but I'm guessing Taylor's 18 points against Southern Utah won't hold up for her chances to win the FOTW this week.
