I’m really anxious to see how much better she can make this team. Rueck has said that there is no damage to the knee and that she just needs to strengthen it, but it’s been a long time since it was scoped. She seems to walk normally, but apparently isn’t even able to go through warmups.
Addendum: I found this on the web regarding recovery from arthroscopy: “ There is a high degree of variability in recovery times. Some patients are able to return to regular activities within two weeks, but most require roughly six weeks before they can resume full activities - including sports - comfortably. Reduction of pain and swelling and improvement in strength, motion, and coordination may continue for three to four months.”
Based on the messages on this board, her surgery was in mid-August, so she is currently sitting at 3 months recovery time. If she is at the long end of the recovery times (4 months), she should be back by mid-December.

I’m assuming she’s out for the season based on the lack of meaningful progress. I suspect she’d have a lot of strength and conditioning to do to be ready for Pac-12 play even without the injury, and going into that with compromised leg strength makes no sense to me.

With Jones’ progress, I say redshirt her and hope she stays for the fifth year when we lose Jones and Brown.

I'm with beaverwbb on this one, although I was hoping she would consider redshirting even before her injury. I'm sure I remember reading about her wanting to play pro ball, so she may not want to spend 5 years in college.
Although I think it would hurt this year's team quite a bit, there is also something appealing about Taya redshirting this year. Taya and Kennedy are very similar players, and in my eyes, the experience factor would tend to favor Taya as the starter, but how long will her injury linger and make her less effective all year long? At least Kennedy and Taylor would have backups in the 'big' department with Trish, Maddie, and even Janassa. Taya redshirting would give the Beavs a talented and solid front court of Jelena, Taylor, Trish, Kennedy, and Taya for the 20-21 season and 21-22 season. That would be some nice depth. I'm not sure how serious Taya's injury is, or if she is even interested in redshirting, but it would definitely hurt the depth/experience on the team this season if she has to go the redshirt route.

Jelena is a tough one to figure because none of us really have a clue how good she is....Much like our situation with Andrea Aquino....
From the beginning I've doubted whether Jelena will spend 5 years in Corvallis.....It doesn't meet the test of common sense as far as playing pro ball in Europe, family connections, etc....However, the story changes if her plan is to remain in the US, seek citizenship, and then have her parents join her.....
A problem facing Jelena is that the Beavs have officially upped their speed game this year, running and gunning with greater abandon than in past seasons....This makes it much tougher for both Trish and Jelena to see the court because their game is more slow and methodical - they both lose much of their team value in a running game....
My view on playing time is that if Jelena is good enough to make significant contributions to the team she should play this year even if she doesn't take the court until mid-January... By definition, this means she needs to perform at a higher, more efficient level than Trish Morris.
Anyway, those are few thoughts I'm currently juggling with regard to Jelena and her 1st year in the program..... GO BEAVS !!

I noticed some recent activity on Jalena's twitter feed... What I can't figure out is whether this clip is recent or old.
The last game (last weekend) at Gill had Jalena, Taya and AA under the basket visiting with each other during warm ups. Now, Jalena might be expressing solidarity with her "walking wounded" sister (Taya), but it felt like to me that AA had been working up to something early in the season by warming up with the team, and that something didn't happen (yet), and it sure felt like Jalena wasn't working up to something yet from her lack of warming up at all..... Would love to see her get minutes in Hawaii.
Go Beavers!

She is getting very close to red shirt time. Even if she can play would she have time to gain enough experience to make an impact.
That said I'd like to see her play tomorrow at home.

That might not be a bad idea. Foreign students have a tougher time at the university if they haven't seven years learning in English.

We'll need Jelena if we want the tallest player on the floor, BYU has 6-7 Sara Hamson

I would be interested in seeing how Trish would hold up against Sara.

We'll need Jelena if we want the tallest player on the floor, BYU has 6-7 Sara Hamson Don't forget OSU has 6-7 Patricia Morris , who might see action against BYU. And who knows, Patricia might be a fraction of an inch taller than Hamson, as Katie Faulkner said in Italy that Morris was 6-8,....maybe with shoes on that have extra thick soles!

The OSU coaching staff hasn't ruled out Jelena to play this season. If she can help at some point and is cleared for full contact, I would love to see her in competition this season to add more depth in the event of foul trouble to our two frosh bigs. I see our team going zone defensively if/when she plays later this season.

Doesn't look like Jalena is going to play tonight.
