Westbrook, a 6-foot guard, averaged 14.9 points and 5.3 assists across 31 starts as a sophomore. She transferred to UConn in May after Holly Warlick was fired as Tennessee’s coach and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. But instead of suiting up this season for the Huskies, the earliest she’ll be able to get on the court is the 2020-21 season. Geno Auriemma said the school plans to appeal the decision and that he is “very, very, very” disappointed.
WTF, Appeal under what grounds? Just because you are UCONN? You transfer you sit out a year. Westbrook was not injured except maybe her feelings.

Aww, Geno’s disappointed. FTG.

Aww, Geno’s disappointed. FTG. Geno was not disappointed; he was very, very, very disappointed. There's a big difference - a very, very, very big difference. Me, I'm very, very, very pleased.

Wait, isn't immediate eligibility sometimes granted upon transfer after an unexpected head coaching change? No? (((ok, I just read elsewhere that a coaching change is not a criteria for immediate eligibility except for incoming freshman and Westbrook is not a freshman...asked and answered)))
Oh well, with Westbrook getting denied, no way will Prince be granted immediate eligibility at Oregon...unless Oregon has some special sauce or Prince has some compelling story folks on the outside don't know about.

I thought Prince got injured during the season last year and it was before she even played a single game at Texas. Right? Some sort of summer competition overseas. So we have three difference circumstances in requesting waivers.

I believe that the NCAA decided to get more hardnosed this year. I think you almost always have to appeal to get anything from them unless your ND. Westbrook really has no reason to appeal based on a coaching change, because she called for it and said she was going to transfer before it even happened. Geno has no reason to be very very disappointed. People in hell want ice water. Westbrook had a weak case for a waiver
Prince missed the entire season last year because of injury. If they do not give her one they are in essence making her go to school for 6 years to get 4 years of eligibility. That is totally going against the intent of the sit a year principle. What they are doing to Kat is also unfair. The whole point is to not allow a player to get more than 4 years' eligibility. Well if Kat just missed a couple of games she would be under the 4-year limit.
I would love to see a class-action suit filed against the NCAA. They are an organization who are not held accountable to anyone. Nothing like a lawsuit to make those sorts of people fold like a cheap chair. Look how quickly the gave in to the player's ability to profit off their image. They know that legally they are a paper tiger. A lawsuit would put them on the spot of having to justify their decisions. Someone is probably suing them already and that is why they are being so strict with waivers this season. It's an attempt to show uniformity to put up a smokescreen for all the inconsistencies they have exhibited over the past years. Appears to be a legal CYA move.

Willtalk, Thanks for the summary of each waiver circumstance. I forgot about Westbrook requesting a transfer while still in the season. Geno and UConn fans think they are special.

Can OSU appeal Tudors decision?

Can OSU appeal Tudors decision? Yes, they can appeal. There is no rhyme or reason with these waivers across all NCAA sports. A football coach dealing with a waiver said if a players family is able to lawyer up it is likely to be granted based on his research. His player's family retained a lawyer and got a waiver after the Offensive Coordinator left after the players FR season.

UConn fan's thesis is that since the NCAA president, Mark Emmert, used to work at UConn, he's biased AGAINST UConn.
Emmert was put in charge of a big campus improvement project. After Emmert left, major mismanagement of the billion-dollar construction project was discovered, only some of which occurred when Emmert was running it. UConn fan thinks that since he is really pissed at Emmert for mismanaging that job and getting a better job at LSU, Emmert must be equally pissed at UConn.
Every fan should have a theory for why the NCAA hates their particular school. If you can't come up with one, then a theory for why the NCAA loves your rival school is an adequate substitute.

Similarly, as a pilot I have been told by members of the flying community that the motto of the FAA is "we're not happy until you're not happy". I tend to believe more in the saying "do not ascribe to malice that which is more easily explained by incompetence/stupidity/bureaucracy.....". I think you can live longer and happier if you *don't* believe the entire world is out to get you, though paranoia can be entertaining at times (like on this board). Go Beavers!
