When she signed with Baylor I wondered if it was a good fit..... No telling where she's headed - - great athlete, great scorer, but she's always liked 1 on 1 more than 5 on 5...That probably aggravated Mulkey !! I think she is from same h.s. as Kat Tudor...
From ESPN.... "Aquira DeCosta, a 6-foot sophomore forward, is leaving the Baylor program and entering the transfer portal, according to a Tweet she posted Tuesday night. She is no longer listed on Baylor's roster. DeCosta was the Class of 2018's No. 3-ranked player overall by ESPN's HoopGurlz. She's from St. Mary's High in Stockton, California. Last season, when Baylor won the national championship, DeCosta saw action in 24 contests, averaging 3.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 6.9 minutes per game." GO BEAVS !!

To put this in perspective: Baylor is losing a player to transfer who is higher rated than ANY player ever recruited to OSU WBB..... It may have virtually no affect on this year's team roster.....But DeCosta will be a force somewhere by her Junior season....
Keep your eyes trained on top 10 programs as that's probably where she will land.....Unless Coach Smith at Cal has made it clear she would be welcomed with open arms back in the Bay Area.....If so, Cal will immediately have one of the power rosters in the Pac-12 for the 20/21 season.... GO BEAVS !!

Any similar disgruntled or dissatisfied 5*, top 10 point guard entering the transfer portal who might be interested in OSU? Beavs need to replace Destiny!

As noted above, DeCosta played both high school basketball at St. Mary's and AAU basketball on the Cal Stars Nike Elite team with Tudor that won the Nike EYBL national title in 2015. Ionescu was on that team as well. DeCosta played inside and was a very difficult athlete to guard based upon her athletic ability, especially her quickness off the floor. Her midrange game may not have sufficiently developed to fit in as a regular in Mulkey's system. In the right system, DeCosta could be a very good Power 5 conference addition.

Perhaps a bit of a red flag when a high school kid lists her "Top 20" possible schools....Now that I've read the link posted by beaverwbb fan I'm even more interested in following this particular transfer story...
Someone is going to get a real basketball talent in DeCosta, but it will take the right team and the right coach for that talent to shine. GO BEAVS !!

Eh, a fair amount if kids do long lists of offers/interests. Sasha did one.

I saw that on twitter yesterday, so I took a look to see if any of the coaches had started following her on twitter. Looks like she was already being followed by Jonas, as well as Kat and Aleah. I didn't see any new action. She is definitely a talent, but I'm pretty doubtful there would be mutual interest between her and the Beavs, but I'm sure if that happens, we will find out. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Beavs land a transfer next spring if Destiny does decide to go pro, unless they get some highly sought after recruits confirmed.

Coach obviously is 100% immersed in the season that is almost here....
But, he also has to deal, in some way, with the fact that at this time next year he could be looking at a guard lineup of Goodman, Simmons, Mannen, and a Frosh (Goforth) who has never played a minute of college ball....This is not a Final Four backcourt. And since Final Four is the new normal for the Beavs he will be forced to somehow strengthen it...
How coach adds talent to the 20/21 backcourt will be fascinating to watch..... On the other hand, if Slocum stays the backcourt will be fine...Yes, Final Four fine.... GO BEAVS !!

Perhaps a more precise statement would be "Final Four expectation...."
However, Fiesta Bowl....I don't think so..... GO BEAVS !!

Just a few words on DeCosta. She is one of those players who's end goal is playing in the WNBA. But unlike most players in college, she was making her transition to the position she will be most suited to in the Pro's. That for her would be the two-guard spot. She has all the skills and athleticism to excel there. Baylor seemed like an ideal spot for her because she excels in space where she can make the best use of quickness and handles. They were already loaded in the post so she would not be forced by necessity to play there. She could play the four in college but that would hold her back from developing perimeter skills.
In respect to the top-rated class she was in- the had a center Egbo, PF Smith and DeCosta would either ply the 3 or the 2. She expected to jump right in as a freshman because the had a need at those positions. What happened was that DiDi Richards made a huge sophomore leap an elevated her status to a prospective draft pick. That along with DeCosta's early injury which hindered her development in a position she had never played before, kept her firmly ensconced as a back up at both the two and three spots.
This year their guard positions are flooded with players. Eventually, with experience, DeCosta would probably pass them up but you have to get on the floor to get experience. The entire sophomore class was suspended for a number of games for some reason. I think this was the clincher in why she entered the transfer portal. I suppose she felt she could not miss two seasons in a row when she missed so many early games.
She is very good offensively on the perimeter. I watched a video from practice last season and Di Di Richards could not stop her one on one. The reason she didn't see the floor more was that her defense was not up to Mulkey's standards. She would lose focus. Probably because in the post you are not faced with having to guard a player with the ball so much.
She played on the USA 3x3 u18 team a few years back and was named MVP of the world tournament. She was the best ball handler on that team. Despite the fact that the team had two McDonald AA guard Uconns Williams was one, it was DeCosta who represented the team in the All Skills challenge and took 3 in the competition. She has amazing ball-handling skills.
I disagree that she is totally a one on one player. She has a good BBIQ, sees the floor and passes very well. Her problem is and has always been sustaining focus and as an on-ball defender for most of the game, that is a position you just can not lose focus at. At Baylor they wanted her to focus on hitting 3 point shots because thats what they needed the most.
Based on what everyone knew her agenda and plans were, I suspect she will choose a team where she can get immediate playing time on the perimeter.
