Unless slocum learns to pass more than shoot, and she is considered a point guard. We have a lot of good 2’s but no point guard? Our best passer might be Brown, tall good floor vision. Good passer. It will be reinventing the wheel early to find a ball handler/dishing off person. We really needed an infusion of height and we are their. Our chemistry will be interesting to watch develope that to me is Rueck big challenge. Getting that offensive machine rolling

It is fun to project the starting lineup. I think it is safe to say Mik, Destiny, Taya, and probably Aleah. After these 4, I really believe we are going to see a lot of substitutions. I am excited to see the progress of Trish & Jas, particularly in their "confidence". I am excited to see Janessa at a wing. I am excited to see Taylor and Kennedy. I'm just excited! I know Maddie will see minutes, but I will be shocked if we see Maddie at the 5. I am also excited to see if Kat is in warm-ups. I sure hope so, as that will be a sign that Kat has progressed to the point of getting back on the court this year.

"Unless slocum learns to pass more than shoot, and she is considered a point guard. We have a lot of good 2’s but no point guard?" Destiny was sub'ed out a lot and OSU wasn't the high scoring team that others were last year so her total assist's were not high. But in assist rate (ie, how much of the teams scoring was off of your assists when you were in the game) Destiny was 20th in the country in her first year playing for the Beav's. How good does she have to be for you to think she is a PG?

Destiny averaged 6.0 APG as a freshman at Maryland. Rueck’s system is much slower than the one she played in at Maryland, so she had to adjust and slow down, but still averaged 4.5 (?) APG. Destiny is, IMO, the best pro prospect on this team.
As beaveragain mentioned, due to Rueck’s slow system, assist rate is a much better stat.

At Maryland Destiny was the point guard. Here she is sharing time with Aleah. Coach seemed to like Aleah's control at the point and Destiny's flash at the three last year when they were both on the court. Having both on the court is really effective to break full court pressure.

Point guard will be a position of strength for OSU in '19-'20. WNBA analysts also seem to think so. Slocum can and does create open shots for her teammates. I believe that she will do more of that this coming season. Slocum, Pivec, and Goodman are the best proven passers on the team. Time will tell as to how effective a passer Brown will be from the 4 or 5 positions at the D1 level. I do think Brown sees the floor better from most bigs from what I saw on video from Italy. Look for Slocum and Pivec to be the penetrating ballhandlers that alaskabeav is hoping for. They both are effective in beating their opponents off the dribble and getting into the paint. I do think that OSU will be an improved offensive team this season. Look for both Slocum and Pivec to be more assertive on the offensive end earlier in games when they sense they have a favorable defensive matchups to exploit.

SR seems to have followed a "displace the incumbent" model early in the season, so I would not be surprised if he trots Mik and Destiny, Taya and Jazz, with Trish in the post as the starters. Variant would be if he sizes up the opposing center and thinks Maddie can play post. Note that Union has some size on their roster, with a 6'4" frosh, 2 players at 6'2" and a 6 foot player as well, so this could be an interesting first game for us against a bit of length. He could also reward Aleah over Jasmine for her veteran standing, and put Taylor out there as the starter if she has overtaken Trish (doubt it). He also knows we are all itching to see the newbies, so maybe he puts Brown, Jones and Mannen out there early or to begin with. In other words - I don't have any idea. but looking forward to Sunday. Go Beavers!

With respect to Destiny and assists, I asked one of the players at the Tip Off Dinner tonight if they planned to run a lot more this year, and she replied, "definitely." That would seem to be right up Destiny's alley, as she runs like a thoroughbred. Sounds like way more opportunities for easy assists on the break.

411500, thanks for bringing up the subject. I really have no idea who will start. If Kat were playing, I think I would have a better guess, but presuming she does not play, changes my thoughts. I think it's a given that Mik, Destiny, and Taya start. Center could be Maddie (experience), Taylor (talent) or Trish (some experience, athletic ability, but still raw).
Maybe even a bigger question is who starts at 3? If Aleah starts along with Mik and Destiny, then there really isn't a lot of proven scoring ability coming off the bench. If Brown starts, do you start two freshman? It's just an exhibition, so maybe you do start Kennedy and Taylor, but I'm guessing not. If Kennedy starts at 3, then I think Maddie may start at Center. If Taylor starts at center, my guess would be Aleah as the other starter. Do you give Janessa a shot at starting at the 3? Do you start Jaz and save some scoring power to come off the bench? I have the slightest idea. I'm glad we have good coaches.

Well, what a wonderful dilemma for a coach, who pretty much can think to himself, "I'm loaded at every position. I can go big,I can go small, I can go half court, I can run. And, no matter which I choose, I can rebound and I can play defense. Basically, no matter which I choose, I can't really go wrong."
