Last season I noticed that Janessa was hitting a significant number of threes during warm ups, like 5 or more in a row regularly. This was before and after her injury.
At the end of Rueck's interview he comments that Janessa is now a wing and that it is her natural position. Personally I'm excited to see her play, I love the energy she brings. Coach said it best when he said that she would rather go through an opponent than around them.

She worked really hard for us at the 5 last year, but it was obvious she is more comfortable as a 3/4 than a 5. I too am excited to see what she brings this year, especially defensively.

Thropay will consistently give great effort, wherever she is asked to play. With so much height now available to the Beavs, it does make sense to give her a shot at earning minutes at the 3 position. At 6'2" and with solid mobility and strength, the 3 may prove to be a very good place for her in '19-'20. She is willing to set screens and play hard-nosed defense. There will be times this season when her skill set will help the Beavs.

About Janessa Thropay beavershoopfan wrote "She is willing to set screens..."
Just one minor point to add here.....Most fans know it, but it's worth repeating.....
Willingness to set screens is only part of the equation in basketball...More important than willingness is technique and execution. Knowing how to set the screen, where to set the screen, and when to set the screen are every bit as important as the willingness to do so....
For example, last year Trish Morris was very willing to set screens - she set them all over the place. Trouble is she was not very good at it. She often squared up too far away from the cutting guard to be helpful, she often "drifted" rather than remaining straight and solid....In a nutshell, last year she simply was not very good at setting screens despite her willingness to set them.
This year I'm hoping for big improvement from her. If she delivers on this count she will become an even more valuable asset to the offense....
Interestingly, at least to me, was how skilled Jo Grymek became at setting screens....She had a highlight reel of "dropped" guards smashing into her....And on every one of them she never wavered. I watched quite a bit of her game film when she was at Seward College and good screens were not part of her game before she arrived at OSU. Coach and staff drilled that skill into her game over a 2 year period...Impressive learning on her part, impressive coaching on their part.
At any rate, just a few minor comments on the difference between willingness to set screens and the ability to set screens.... GO BEAVS !!

Janessa played the 3 in Italy, and was very impressive on defense. Janessa has quick feet, and of course, great size on the perimeter. Rueck stated this team has the potential to be the most disruptive defensive team he has coached in 24 years! I believe Jas & Janessa are going to gett time on the perimeter because of their defense. I also noticed from the games in Italy that Janessa gets up and down the court quickly...not as quick as Jas, but everyone seems to be a step or 2 behind Jas in the transition game.

Lots of talented bodies on this roster. Whose minutes will she take? We have Pivec,Slocum,Simmons,Tudor eventually and Goodman on the perimeter. Inside we have Corosdale,Washington,Brown,Jones, and Morris. Who sits?

For example, JT's toughness, defensive ability, and size could be/would be an asset and better match up when playing man-to-man inside and outside against Satou Sabally of Oregon.

Rueck has repeatedly said that it is up to the player for court time. He says that they need to make him not be able to take them out. Coach has assembled a group of high quality pieces with differing skill sets. He is going to be able to play matchups with anybody. Now back to the original thread. Will Janessa make the Kolby leap?

With respect to playing time, no player ever plays at their best all of the time. Every player has low energy or off shooting nights. Those are the times when depth comes in handy. With depth it allows the coach to replace players having an off night. It also allows them to expect every player to give their all every minute of every game. If not they can be replaced if they are tired or not willing to give it they're all. During the last NCAA's the Beaves had a problem in that most of their scoring disappeared. They were really searching for anyone to get them some points. With more players that allow more options in that respect. If someone goes cold, then there is someone else who might be hot.

Very noticeable in Italy that Janessa showed up for this season as a quicker (and more confident) player. She’ll be a very important (and versatile) part of Rueck’s rotation this season

Thropay has consistently been among the fitter and stronger players on the Beavs during her first three seasons, according to her teammates. Staying healthy has been her biggest challenge during her first three years. I have heard that she routinely finishes as or among the top bigs in running contests, including timed miles in the past. I assume that she has kept herself physically and mentally ready to make the most of her final season in Corvallis. Would love to see her make an significant impact to the team's success in '19-'20.

IIRC, as a freshman her mile time was second only to Mik. I'm pretty sure she outruns all the bigs.
