beavsteve - - Thanks for posting....The podcast really is interesting and informative...
Plus, it's just plain fun to listen to Coach Rueck chat, philosophize, and sermonize without knowing for sure which is which.... If you're a serious fan set aside 38 minutes and take a listen...It's worth it...
A few things that struck me while listening to this 38 minutes podcast. One: Coach continues to be openly effusive about Jones & Kennedy. Not just about their character and attitude but about their entire game. He is really elevating expectations in Beaver Nation for these two and that is not his style. Personally, this leads me to think he believes they are really special...Even more than he expected from Blue Chip frosh... To that I say "GREAT."
Two: Coach says he expects this team to be more disruptive on defence than any of his previous teams. "Disruptive" being code for more hands in the passing lanes, more attempts at steals, more gambling, more like the LA schools.....There is no way in hell he would do this unless he firmly believes he has a cast of exceptional defensive players this year... To that I say "GREAT."
Three: Coach all but said that the entire teams expects to make it to the Final Four this year. I cannot remember him ever being this brash with any of his other teams. To that I say "GREAT." GO BEAVS !!

Good points.
Great interview. This is going to be a fun year regardless of the win/ loss record or where we end up in April.
We have one more year to watch a very special competitor in Mik, it sounds like she has once again elevated her game to another level. A more explosive Mik is going to be tough to defend.
I'm interested in seeing Mannon play, of course it may be a year or two before that happens with any regularity. Rueck continues to say he is impressed with her playing against two excellent point guards. In interviews Aleah and Destiny have commented multiple times that she is doing a really good job against them.
The game against team USA is huge for the program, as recognition for where we are and for future recruiting. I seriously hope that this game is a sell out. We're getting a chance to see perhaps the best women's basketball team to ever step on the court, and I hear team USA is pretty good too 😁.
Maybe not be last in the country in steals. A big statement from Rueck, I agree that he must have confidence in his players ability to maintain defensive position while still be in the passing lanes.
The pac 12 could end up with three teams on the final four.

Not a single comment about your other seniors? MW and KT. Not a single mention of TC?

Oregon State Alumni Magazine - Oregon Stater has published an article on Scott Rueck. Page 48 Oregon StaterI think it is incredibly insightful as to the character of player (staff) he pursues. By watching players he can assess a good fit in about 10 minutes. Go Beavs.

People that think that Rueck is just another coach should read that article.
At George Fox after he won his first conference championship he realized that the winning he craved and worked for wasn't the key to happiness. Selflessness is the way to happiness.
He learned that it can never be about "you". That's true of his role and the role of every member of the team.
"When we play, we have our fan's best interests in mind, " Rueck said. "I mean, we cognitively think of them, and we know we represent them, the way we're performing. Our fans feel that."

Pretty interesting philosophy/ approach, which also explains his recruiting preferences. The game is bigger than you or me, it’s about a positive fan environment . Great athletes, great coaching = great crowds, great environment and winning culture ! Nice job Scott ! Go Beavers !
