I do. I'm among those who believe that Trish Morris holds considerable promise and has the makings of a starting 5 player....
But I'm also among those who believe that she is not very advanced in the technical part of her game, and, partly because she is fairly new to competitive ball, that she does not have a lot of "basketball instinct." She is a project for sure. But all projects are not created equal.
The question is how long will she keep being a Project, and how soon will she start being a regular contributor.... The answer to these uncertainties will be much more clear to everyone by Christmas..... Part of the problem for Trish is that Taylor Jones looks like she is game ready right now....And her readiness might very well keep Trish off the floor.....
Not to be overlooked: Trish is 6'7, athletic and she's also bright. That cluster simply does not happen very often in WBB. Coach definitely does not want to waste that rare combination of assets.....
Since I can't watch practice I'm going to have to wait until Christmas, or so, to see what has transpired in Trish's basketball maturation..... Nobody truly in the know has said very much about her - at least that I've read.....
If she has not progressed to the point where she earns floor time this season, I'm still a believer that she will become a real force by this time next year. There's just too much about her to like. Is this speculation on my part? Yes, of course.....But I can't shake the notion that she's eventually gonna be a big contributor for the Beavs.... I'm not a sentimentalist when it comes to talent evaluation. I think Trish has got the package...but it's just not nicely wrapped yet..
I'd love to hear one of the coaches give a straight-forward assessment of how she's progressing, but since that rarely happens I guess we're just going to have to wait and see for ourselves..... That's kinda how I see things right now.... GO BEAVS !!

Judging from the Italy film, I think she's where we all more-or-less expect her to be. She's far from polished, but she runs the floor well and is generally more athletic than any girl over 6'6" has a right to be. I think Taylor looked more ready to be the starting C, but Trish will get some good minutes. If Taylor's boot doesn't come off right away, I bet Trish and Maddie split time at the C pretty much the way Jo and Maddie split it last year.

Just one minor point bennyskid..... All of the Italy games were pretty much run, run, shoot, shoot....In that format Trish will not see much floor time. Jones and Brown are both faster and have a better fast game than Trish... When January rolls around, and every possession is weighed and measured, Morris' game will have a better chance to shine..... GO BEAVS !!

Trish also reported on her instagram she’s gained a ton of strength since she arrived in Corvallis, posting a photo of her flexing and captioning something along the lines of “I couldn’t even pick up a dumbbell when I got here.”
I think Trish tends to overthink it sometimes, and that holds her back. I’m very excited to see what kind of development Trish made! Not sure she can beat out a healthy Taylor Jones yet though.

I think that Brown and Jones have a different set of offensive skills that Trish just hasn't created yet. Brown's inside and outside, and Jones' mid-range shooting are very developed and against the Italian competition extremely good. But SR's needs are for a inside defense and from what I saw in the Italian games Trish is doing better than her teammates. And on speed, Trish was barely in the games, but from what little I saw she was running up the court instead of loping. The Beav's need a blocking/rebounding presence that so far Maddie hasn't shown she can provide. I think it's going to be Trish giving the Beav's the best chance at success at the end of the year, but it's possible I'm wrong. Naw, I got it nailed.
Can't believe I'm saying this about Trish. Before last season I thought it would take her a couple of years before she got any real playing time. Other than rebounding she really didn't have much when she came to OSU, but wow, ever since she's just improved so much.

Would love to see Morris factor into the core rotation this season. I agree with beaveragain above that both Brown and Jones bring offensive skills that will help the Beavs immediately. Morris will need to show her worth doing the little things well.
Morris can earn minutes by providing rim and paint protection, setting solid (and non-moving screens), avoiding fouls that result from being out of position, and finishing layins and putbacks when those opportunities present themselves. With Mitrovic on the sidelines recovering from knee surgery, Morris will be given every opportunity in practice to show how she can compete against Brown and Jones to earn minutes at the 5.
At her best last season, Morris blocked Hebard's shot in the paint and bodied up well to Anigwe on several possessions as a frosh.

She has talent but like last year kinda is getting lost in all the other big people. She may leave if she gets stilffed another year. Personal opinion here.i think we could have won more in pac 12 and playoffs if we went with her versus polish gal. But we have a pretty darned principled guy for coach. Maybe shouldn’t be THAT principled. In this dog eat dog game

Watching the Italy video's I tried to see if specific players had made adjustments or improved the area's that they had problems in last season. Destiny on her on-ball defense and Trish on challenging shots in front of her. I noticed Trish actually went out to challenge a perimeter shot. That is major. Destiny, because she is an energizer easy shot tends to hop around in front of her defensive assignment. I believe she does this to compensate for her height and throw off the ball handler. Good idea but she should not elevate so much, because a really good player will watch her feet and make her move based on in which direction she elevates too. I did not see that in the Italy game but it might have been because she did not feel the need to against that level of competition.
As I mentioned before, I believe that not challenging shots at a distance in front of her is a habit she picked up early on. Coaches tell their really tall posts to not leave their feet rather to just raise their arms and keep their position. Basically to avoid picking up fouls and compared to the level of players they face thats all they need to do. At this level that is not good enough. I noticed when she did not challenge in games is when Scott usually pulled her out.
Something else I noticed is that in her high school video's she seemed to play more on the balls of her feet than she did last season? Perhaps because of a lack of confidence in knowing her role in the defense?
The thing to remember about Trish is that due to lack of development in high school, she still has a big upside left. We probably will not see that until she develops more. The important thing is that the light could come on at any time, so it is important not to stereotype or lock her into the level where she is presently at.

The nice thing about having these 3 Freshman BIGs is that Trish's development is going to scream forward now. She is bright, has athleticism, and works hard. Trish is going to advance a great deal just from practicing with these new BIGs. I have always liked Trish's potential, and, frankly was impressed during the minutes she got to play this past season. Trish had some impressive moments (already called out in a previous post) last season.
