I agree that it's a shame, and also agree that it's time to move on. Best to assume that she's never going to play for OSU, but life goes on - for her, hopefully, very happily. I’m not going to write her off before Scott does.

Back in August, I wondered why the OSU Athletic Dept. could not/ would not state publically if Aquino had been cleared to play this year or not. I was duly informed it was most likely a HIPAA issue. I'm very familiar with HIPAA, and cannot see how a simple yes, she is cleared, or a no, she is not cleared could be a violation. Now that Coach Rueck has confirmed AA is not cleared, should we now be concerned of a HIPAA violation? Inquiring minds.. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

May be, if it is surgery ( worst case ), that even with a successful outcome - she is not able to play competitive sports without significant risk. Key thing is that she extends and improved her quality of life. Maybe she could sue the NCAA and OSU for not letting her play. Say that they are impeding her plan to play professional ball. I'd give it a shot.... ahhhh, the Lonnie Shelton maneuver.

FWIW...Andrea is still working out with the team. I don’t see Jelena though.

Is that not Jelena at the ~0:02 mark of the video off to the side working out her leg? (in the same still image as Kat showing off her vertical).
Go Beavers!

And back to the original topic of the thread - I sure hope AA gets cleared to play someday, because for a post player she sure can move her feet! :-)
Go Beavers!

Andrea Aquino's continued training and presence on the team is an asset for her teammates whether she is cleared to play in competitive games or not during her OSU educational experience. Her teammates know how much she wants to play and how skilled she is. It helps put into perspective for those who are able to play to never take for granted the opportunity to play for your school. The window to be a collegiate athlete is a limited one. Enjoy every day that you have to do what you love to do.

beaverhoopsfan stated it perfectly, but I think he left out part of the equation which may be as important as the part he described.....
The part he didn't emphasize is that Andrea Aquino's continued training is an asset to her, to her sense of well-being, to her feeling of membership in a group she has bonded with and loves....
So, having Andrea on the team, in the gym with her teammates, on the official Oregon State University roster, on a nationally recognized team - all these things are absolutely great for Andrea as a person.
As I look at it, it's a win-win all the way around. The team benefits for all the reasons beavershoopsfan superbly described, and Andrea wins for all the reasons here described....
Another example of Coach Rueck making the right move, doing the right thing.... GO BEAVS !!

From a fans perspective though wouldn't it be reasonable to let everyone know that it is what it is, in other words, she is a great teammate and a part of the team, we all love her, BUT she is never going to be on the floor (I can't believe that would be a HIPPA issue if no details are released). I hear folks all the time asking about her, as do I, and I think it in some ways could take away from the attention that others on the team should rightfully benefit from as contributing players? AA gets more attention than many of our other post players who are trying to be the best they can be and they need all the support they can get as well. Just an question, not bashing on AA, though i'm sure someone will undoubtedly come up with some negative response, it apparently is what people can't wait to do!!!!! Just some thoughts, don't shoot the messenger...

I’d just like to know what information you have (that the rest of us don’t have) that makes you seemingly 100% sure that Andrea will never see the floor? If you don’t have any such information, it would seem that you are the one being “negative”. I’ve followed information on Andrea very closely and I’ve seen nothing that says there is zero chance that her issue would either resolve itself or be addressed via some medical intervention. While it does seem that the odds may be against her playing for the Beavers, even a 1% chance should warrant holding back from saying “she is never going to be on the floor”.

What more can I say than she is a big positive for this team? But thanks for splitting those hairs... BTW, I left out one little short word, "if"...

Hopefully the inquisition of the young lady and coaches will now stop! But, I'm sure some jack wagon will still state the university owes us further explanation. She nor the university owed fans any info. If she stepped onto the court during game play is all that is needed by fans, The people who deserved to know and needed to know always have. Go AA, Go Beavs...
