Went for it on 4th and 8 from their own 22 down 3 with three time outs and the two min warning. Didn't make it. Super bowl winning coach made that call. Hmmmm

Hmmmm NFL coaches make bad decisions all the time. It's really mind boggling they don't keep a logician standing next to them every game to inform them of the obviously logical choice in any situation. Ego, i guess. Sunday Carroll (another SB coach) kicked a 1 instead of going for 2 and making it a TD+FG deficit Also Sunday, Bruce Arians Tampa coach intentionally takes a five yard penalty to center the ball, and his kicker misses the kick... by 4 yards. And don't even mention Freddie Kitchens' playcalling.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles coach looked at a spreadsheet and was told that going for it on 4th & 8 there was a 30% chance of winning, but punting was only a 20% chance of winning (made up numbers). The thing is in football, I think most fans (myself included) expect you to keep yourself "in" the game as long as possible instead of maybe taking that extra 10% chance of winning. Going for it on the 4th & 8 might be the "right" choice, but FAILING on that play basically ends the game right now. A couple of times in games last year, I saw the broadcast crew put up numbers for whether going for 1 or 2 was the right choice, and the OPPOSITE of what a traditionalist would say was the correct choice. Again, the overall numbers were probably in favor of the seemingly wrong choice, but I think the % scenarios probably gave the opponent a chance to win rather than tie. Coaches generally get raked over the coals more if they let a winnable game slip away moreso than if they hammer down a win early.

He moved the ball back because the field conditions for his kicker were better from the 34 than the 29. The vertical placement of the ball from does not move when there is a DOG penalty. The next-to-last play lost 2 yards centering the ball, not the DOG penalty.

I know it's armchair stuff but that baffled me.
