After the 2020 WNBA Draft Lottery that was held tonight, the following article was released by ESPN writer Mechelle Voepel. The 2020 WNBA Mock Draft accessible below includes three projected early (junior) entries: Sabally at #3, Carter at #5, and Slocum at #8. A combined five players from Oregon and Oregon State are projected to be among the Top 10 picks next April: Ionescu at #1, Sabally at #3, Hebard at #7, Slocum at #8, and Pivec at #10. WNBA analysts and WNBA brass are apparently appreciating the PAC-12 talent that we have seen play at Gill during the past three seasons. www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/27634224/wnba-mock-draft-oregon-sabrina-ionescu-projected-no-1-pick

I hope Destiny decides to stay another year. They have her projected to the Sky, where she will sit on the bench behind Vandersloot and get 5-7 MPG.

If WNBA mock drafts are any indication of how good a guard is:
1. OSU has 2 of the 6 best draft eligible guards in the country according to ESPNW 2. OSU has 2 of the 7 best draft eligible guards in the country according to wnba.com 3. OSU has 2 of the 9 best draft eligible guards in the country according to draftsite.com
Note: No other team has more than 1 guard in any of the "top player" mock draft lists put forth by these websites.

I wonder under what rule Sabally would be eligible for the coming draft. She is a junior. I suppose she could qualify via age much like Sabrina was eligible last season. But it would seem to me that she might want to play with her sister at least a year. They are correct in that she would have a much higher ceiling than Hebard. One other player that would be draft eligible that is being totally ignored is McDonald from Arizona. She was listed on lindys AA second team. She is similar to A&M's Carter as a scorer, but not as big of a gunner.

The wnba.com website lists Aari McDonald as one of the Top 12 prospects for the 2020 WNBA Draft in the article by Michelle Smith that is accessible in the link below. McDonald is extremely difficult to guard and should put up big numbers again for Arizona this coming season. www.wnba.com/news/top-prospects-for-draft-lottery-2020/

Aari McDonald didn't get much notice either in high school or her first season in college. She sat out last year due to her transfer. In high school she was overshadowed by Ionescu who played on a team not 45 miles away. There were many in the area who thought McDonald was a better player and would have a more successful career at the next level. She also didn't play for a team that got much coverage. He freshman season she was on the Washington team that had Plum. Need I say more. She should have been a McDonalds AA but was overlooked because her area had some other really good guards ( Tudor being one ) who sort of negated each other in respect to McDonald's consideration. The only one that made it was Sabrina.
There was actually a guard, similar too, but who appeared to be much better than McDonald in the class ahead of her. She was impossible to stop on the drive and was a much better outside shooter. Unfortunately, her career was ruined by personal issues and behavior problems. She never made it to college. It is a shame, because even as a soph. she could take over a game against top 5 teams in the country on both offense and defense. I mean she was unstoppable. I mean she would drive against multiple top level P5 players waiting for her in the paint and they could not stop her.

I got to see Aari McDonald play two games for Brookside Christian in a high school holiday tournament in northern California in December 2015. She was able to get into the paint whenever she tried. And she tried a lot. Lots of shots taken within five feet, but limited attempts from mid-range and beyond.
If McDonald can demonstrate that she has improved her outside shooting this season, she has the potential to move up in the 2020 draft if she opts to enter after her redshirt junior season.

Agree that 3 point shooting accuracy is the next big step for McDonald. Her 3 point shooting % actually decreased from .330 as a Fr. at UW to .281 as a soph at Arizona. Overall FG% dropped as well. Obviously much fewer attempts her first season, and no defense was focused on her that year.
Can't help but think what might have been if she stayed in Seattle. McDonald and Melgoza possibly could've been the highest scoring guard tandem in the country 2 years running.

McDonald is for real, but she sure had a rough night against the Beavs in Tucson in their two overtime loss, especially in the closing seconds of regulation and during the 2 overtimes that followed.
In the final second of regulation she missed a wide open 3 from the top of the key that would have won it for Wildcats.
She followed her end of regulation miss with an off balance 3 at end of first OT that also would have won it.
To add to her misery she was rejected in the paint by Grymek with 30 seconds remaining in the first overtime; she missed another layin with 16 seconds to go in the second OT; and she then missed even another layup with 8 seconds to go. On all of her missed layins Grymek was plugging the key and protecting the rim.
All in all, you gotta think this was a game she's glad to have behind her….. GO BEAVS !!

I remember the game in Tucson being ugly. The first meeting in Corvallis turned into a blowout and Slocum outplayed McDonald by a healthy margin.

Watch how she plays under the basket. She shoulders the defensive player away in a very quick motion and falls backward as if she's been hit. She does this to clear space and because she's so damned short, and it is clearly an offensive foul. She gets away with it because she's so small and doesn't move the defender. The ref frequently calls the foul on the defender because it's so quick that he doesn't comprehend it. This won't work in the WNBA. She's not a great shooter or playmaker and she's too short for the WNBA. She's no Jordin Canada.

I can't believe an offensive player would ever use tactics to create space! Terrible🤣🍻

I know you must love her because "that's just basketball", but some of us despise Ionescu for her underhanded shenanigans. If the refs don't see somebody punch another player in the belly, then I guess that's not cheating, right?

Canada is also not a great shooter. Could hamper her in the league, but she made great strides in her second season. Her real calling card is her defense, so that might be something McDonald needs to focus on. Canada always had a knack for highlight reel plays but she can play out of control at times and take wild shots. I think McDonald is a more consistent finisher in the lane than Canada was in college.
