Ran across this on twitter today. Piath Gabriel, a PF who is not in the ESPN top 100 for 2020, committed to UCONN today. According to her coach, she picked UCONN over schools like Louisville and Tennessee. www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/27652526/uconn-adds-recruiting-class-pf-gabrielI only bring this up as there may be some that are concerned that Savannah Samuel was not in the Prospect Nation or ESPN top 100, but she was rated top 60 by ASGR. Although girls basketball is being followed closer than ever, scouting WBB is still not up to par with other sports, and there are always those who fall through the cracks. Most players are evaluated more on the AAU circuit than at their local high schools and thus get ranked accordingly. Taylor Jones actually dropped in the rankings because she didn't get to play last summer even though she had a really good high school senior year. Savannah Samuel played for a great (many consider the best team this summer)AAU team, but she came off the bench because she was playing behind some other stars. Because of that, Savannah didn't get the recognition she would have received had she started for a lesser team. Everything about Savannah tells me she is really an OSU type of person and player. I hope she comes out here, has a successful career, and helps the Beavs win a national title.

Good find rmancarl.....It sounds like she is a good one, and going to prep school pretty much in UConn's backyard....
An edited summary of the article tells us that: "Gabriel is among the most versatile front court prospects in the Class of 2020. At 6-foot-4, she displays the ability to stretch the defense and bring the ball up the floor at times. Gabriel, whose family is originally from Sudan, is not the first person in her family to play Division I hoops. Her sister, Karima Gabriel, spent her freshman season at DePaul before transferring to Boston College and later Cal State Fullerton from 2011 to '16. Her brother, Wenyen Gabriel, played at Kentucky from 2016 to '18…. Gabriel visited UConn on Monday and picked the Huskies over Tennessee, Louisville, Miami, LSU, Boston College and North Carolina, according to her club coach Scott Hazelton."
So yeh, she is an example of a player who in all likelihood is the Real Deal and somehow got missed....Being from Sudan may have created immigration issues for her....However, her brother playing at Kentucky pretty much guarantees that coaches in the East knew all about her long before the Evaluators found her... GO BEAVS !!

I found this to be a very solid human interest article with lots of good info on Savannah's recruitment, and in-depth personal comments from her family about their visit to Corvallis....
The story really points out the power and the togetherness of the team culture at OSU, and how genuinely the players respect and enjoy one another. A great feel-good article that shares a lot about the program and the quality of the people who run it...
From a recruiting standpoint one critical sentence near the end of the article....One that I suspected was coming....Indicates that the Beavs are looking at signing ONE more player for 2020... That pretty much means one of our two top prospects has her eyes turned elsewhere..... GO BEAVS !!

It could mean one has eliminated OSU from interest, or OSU just wants to add one more player.

Adam does a really good job with these WBB recruiting articles. I always enjoy the insight on the role of Coach Rueck, and the conversations he has with both the prospective student athlete as well as the parents. I always feel proud of this program when I hear how this coaching staff presents itself to the kids and their parents.
It's very, very, possible the Beavs only sign one more recruit this year (or none), but I'm not sure I would read too much into Adam's "one more" comment. If I had to bet on how many more they sign for 2020, I would go with one, but two more won't shock me. Picking up a transfer after this season wouldn't surprise me either, depending on who else they sign this fall, and whether any players (Destiny) decide to trun pro.

It could mean one has eliminated OSU from interest, or OSU just wants to add one more player. You could be right about OSU wanting to add just one more player. Personally, I doubt it.... Daniels & HVL are two of the highest rated recruits EVER to be recruited by the Beavs and I cannot see any reason why they don't want both of them. Badly. They both would add greatly to the strength of the roster. HVL is a difference maker. Signing her would make the Beavs an immediate Final Four favourite. If there is a reason she is not the #1 recruiting priority for the staff it seems like it would be for personal issues not basketball issues because everyone agrees she is a Player..One of the best guards in a long time.. At any rate, it's October and we have miles to travel before we hit the recruiting finish line....

Early signing period for 2020 basketball recruits is just a little more than 6 weeks away (Nov 13, 2019 to Nov 20, 2019). I think OSU will have all its questions answered by then!

Over on BeaverBlitz Adam had some interesting follow up comments on his recent Savannah Samuels article.....When it comes to the recruitment of HVL & DD he seemed to have some inside info, part of which is seen here:
"While the Van Lith camp has been radio silent in discussing Hailey's recruitment (I've tried numerous times to get a response), I've been hearing some conflicting info on Daniels. I've heard both that she's moved on from OSU now that Samuel is in the fold, while I've also heard that she still intends to take her OV to OSU. At this point ....it is my belief that OSU is all in on HVL currently and would have Daniels take her OV still but she would be more of a jelly donut than a must get at this point."
Adam seems to be a good source when it comes to OSU WBB recruiting....So, it's always worth reading what he writes.....However, I'm a bit skeptical the Beavs are not all in with DD, at least until she let's them know she's headed elsewhere....There is no one currently on the 2021 radar with DD's length, athleticism, or defensive presence, so it's not like they will find her "equivalent" in the next recruiting cycle....
Now, we may not have miles to go before we reach the recruiting finish line, but we sure have a lot of kilometres before we get there...🏀

Will Aquino ever play at osu? I've seen in the past when a player isn't cleared for competition, osu can use their scholarship for another athlete, and still have the player enrolled and in school.

I appreciate that the OSU staff really focus on a very select group in their all-in recruitment strategy. It seems if they get the kid on campus, these recruits know before the visit is over that they are committing to OSU WBB Program. Impressive.

Adam's done a great job of contacting the High School coaches and even talking to the parents and prospective athlete. Saying that, if Daniels has moved on from OSU, and I doubt that is true, Savannah's recruitment wouldn't be expected to be the reason. I would expect Savannah to be a wing/guard, whereas Daniels, while versatile, would better fit at PW. If she decided against OSU because of another player, I would expect that Taylor and Kennedy may be the reason. Well, we'll find out the answer in a few kilometres. Yep, the HVL recruitiment is very quiet, especially when it concerns the Beavs. It's so quiet, it's difficult to judge how much interest the Beavs actually have.

I am more concerned about what HVL is thinking... she would be great to build an offense around. Especially given that she would be the crown jewel, ala Sydney and Mik and Destiny.
