Anybody watched enough practices and scrimmages to know why we're using Gretler as the backup catcher to Ice and not giving either of the freshmen (O'Rourke and Taylor) any playing time at all? I can guess why but am wondering if anyone has more than a guess.

Maybe going to redshirt the other two guys? Maybe Gretler has a better bat during practice are my guesses.

Are you suggesting you think those guys are better than Gretler or that they should play instead just to get experience? If it's the latter I don't recall Casey ever doing that.

Not suggesting anything. Just asking for insight into the backup catching situation. Gretler struggled against Portland and his bat wasn't so hot in Surprise if memory serves me correctly.

Taylor has already appeared in 4 games, so doubt he redshirts. Looks like O'Rourke might since no appearances.
