Another sports magazine, another Top 10 Preseason Ranking.... This time the Beavs come in at #6 in Lindy's Sports annual preseason women's basketball ratings.

I'm excited for Destiny to make a HUGE jump in her overall game this season. Me, too. Slocum has the physical tools (strength especially) to be a dynamic point guard who can create shots for others and bury her own shot. With a season of play in the OSU system now behind her, Slocum and her OSU fellow guards should provide the Beavs with matchup advantages in virtually every game this season. I also see Slocum playing a vital role in rewarding the frosh bigs for their mobility and running the court in '19-'20.

Having 2 All Americans in the backcourt should make things a bit easier for those up front.Defenses can't sag off the guards and make them beat you from the outside, because they obviously will.
I too think we'll run a lot more this year. Haven't actually seen Brown or Jones play, but, from what I've read here, it sounds like they could play up tempo, which wasn't exactly a strength for Jo, and, in fairness, I don't recall seeing Katie on the front end of too many 3 on 2's.

The brief summary for the #6 Beavers in Lindy's Sports '19-'20 preseason college basketball magazine reads as follows:
"The Beavers may have the best backcourt in the country with Destiny Slocum (15.4 ppg, 4.5 apg), Mikayla Pivec (15.2 ppg, 9.2 rpg) and PAC-12 Sixth Player of the Year Aleah Goodman (10.7 ppg). And that doesn't even include 3-point sharpshooter Kat Tudor (12.3 ppg), who should be back around the start of the year after tearing her ACL in January. The Beavers have plenty of size inside as well with 6'9" Andrea Aquino, 6'7" Patricia Morris, and 6'6" Kennedy Brown to name a few. Oregon State reached the Sweet Sixteen last year, and should be better this season."

Freshman Taylor Jones is reportedly impressing her teammates and coaches with her commitment to improve and develop by running hill repeats with fellow frosh Brown and another veteran OSU player and putting in extra time on her own shooting and working on her post moves at the practice facility. During her recent stay in Texas following the team's trip to Italy, she also put in consistent hours of training competing with and against males at her local training facility. Reports of Goodman, Pivec, and Tudor getting in lots of extra work at the practice facility are commonplace. Hearing of incoming freshmen already showing strong work habits, asking to be included with the veterans when they do hills and sprints, and displaying a desire to improve reflects that the program will be in good hands going forward. All players want to be better. What separates the good players from the elite players is the extra work that they are willing to put in on their own to become elite and be in a better position to help their team.

Very good post, beavershoopsfan, and thanks for the update on Taylor and the rest of the team. If anything, I think Italy may have showed Taylor that this team needs some post help this year, and the opportunity is wide open. Taylor working on her post moves is exactly what will get her playing time this season, and is what this team needs.
I appreciate Mik and Aleah putting in lots of extra work, but those two girls have played a lot of basketball this summer. Hopefully these girls will still be fresh come March madness.
I can't wait to see Kat on the floor again. I hope it is sooner rather than later! I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty excited to see the team SR fields this year.

With this and what I've seen from Taylor in the games in Italy, I would predict (without factoring in Mitrovic) that Taylor Jones will be our starting center... if not initially (because Rueck seems to often, if not always, starts the season with his vets), then very soon after. She does seem to be "elite". If Mitrovic comes up to speed on the defensive end quickly, I could see her playing center (or Trish) and using Taylor as a forward (even with Corosdale at the other spot) in a 2-guard line-up (when match-ups with the other team make this appropriate). That would be a very nice big lineup. Of course Kennedy Brown would also be a candidate for a forward position. Tremendous opportunities with this roster!

It will be Jones, Mitrovic and Trish in the front court with Andrea and Kennedy at the guard spots.

That would certainly blow some minds and set a record! I would love to see it just for the subsequent headlines.

I recognize the humor above, but it is often very difficult to effectively defend the perimeter with multiple 6'5+" players on the floor at the same time in women's basketball. OSU will play a 2-3 zone on occasion. With the length and mobility of 6'6" Brown, 6'4" Jones, and 6'3" Corosdale, OSU's "big" lineup next season may be quick enough to be able to chase shooters to the three-point line while also clogging penetration into the paint. Morris showed last season that she is capable of blocking and disrupting shots in the paint as well.
