Maui Classic brings back Beavers, brings home HafokaRueck said that the BYU matchup is big for his team — last season, the No. 8 Beavers lost here for the first time in six games when Texas A&M pulled out a 76-70 upset. “No question, you want to play great teams and we knew that when we scheduled (BYU) you’re going up against a team that might be the favorite to win their conference, they are going to win a lot of games,” Rueck said. “They’re definitely a 20-plus-win team, so that’s going to help our RPI certainly and help us prepare for what we have ahead as we look towards the Pac-12 schedule. “They’ll test us in many ways and that should just be an outstanding basketball game.” The time of day it takes place is still to be determined. The Beavers have held school-time games at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis for the last nine years and last season they drew more than 9,000 fans using the format that allowed local schools to take field trips to the game.

BYU should be more than a handful for the Beavs.....They won their conference tourney last year. Their 3 leading scorers all return and they are workhorses....Each averaged double figures for the season, and each played 34 plus minutes per game...They have a lot riding on those 3. BYU beat Gonzaga twice last year so that says something....
The non-conf. games are looking a bit tougher than it looked like on first glance.... Pacific, the Beavs likely 2nd game in WNIT, has an impressive roster this season including a 5* transfer who was talked about in a previous thread.. If we make it to the finals in the WNIT we could face Boise State - with Oregon transfer 6'5 Mallory McGwire bolstering the middle, giving the Broncos the beef they did not have last year - and some extra scoring as well.... GO BEAVS !!

BYU's leading returning scorer is out for the year w/ a knee injury. Their other 2 high scoring and 3 point threat guards are back, but they will certainly miss Shaylee Gonzales.

BYU is precisely the type of team we should be scheduling - good enough to help the RPI, but not good enough to beat us more frequently than, say, 1 time in 6.
