The next three games should be tougher, and I would expect the last two to be the toughest. Most teams only play three games, so maybe the coaches wanted that as almost a warmup. I guess you never truly know who will be there for the teams from seasons before, but if Costa has Reyna Frost and a few other good players, that would make for solid competition. So for those curious, there is two leagues in Italy, Serie A1 and Serie A2, and Lazio select is in neither. Ponzano was a poor A2 team, Costa was a very good A2 team, and San Martino has a team in both A1 and A2 - if we play the A1 team, should be good ocmpetition.
Another thing that interested me was some of the different lineups. I think we saw Trish, Kennedy, and Janessa, as well as Taylor, Kennedy, and Janessa. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are times we see a lineup of Taylor, Kennedy, and Taya for spurts in the season.

Without much evidence to support it, I am starting to think that Taylor Jones might emerge as the surprise package on this year's team. beaverwbb fan has been excited about her talent level for a while now, and he pretty much knows what's going on with the Beavs.
If Taylor does earn floor time (as a Frosh) that means she brings a lot to the table because her floor time will most likely take away from either Tudor, Corosdale, or Trish Morris. Now if you're Coach, you would not take floor time away from any of these 3 unless the 4th (Taylor Jones) brings some serious business.
So, this is a long-winded way of saying that if Jones does get floor time she will have to be something special. And if she is something special that is good news for the Beavs.
So, I'm now hoping that Jones is this year's surprise rookie because if she is the Beavs just got a lot stronger. GO BEAVS !!

Players with above-average wingspans are favored by the NBA. For most people, one's wingspan is roughly equal to one's height. NBA players average 6'7" tall but their average wingspan is 7'0". That's a 5" advantage over somebody with average wingspan. It is a valuable component of one's NBA measurables. So along comes Taylor. Now this young lady is listed as 6'4" tall, which in itself is an outstanding advantage in women's basketball where lots of teams don't have even a single person of that height. So now consider her 7'2" wingspan in conjunction with that 6'4" height. That, sir, is a 10" advantage over the average wingspan, and even 5" more advantage than what NBA players have over the average person. I believe this measure alone is sufficient reason to think that her court performance will surprise when matched against people of similar height.

Team had 16 steals and 50 rebounds. That probably speaks more to the competition than to our defense, but still nice to see. Since Aquino didn't play, I would speculate that the smart thing to do would be to write her off for this year as well. That would seem to open up more minutes for Brown and Jones. Since Jelena would seem to be more of a question mark than either of them, and since she is coming off the scope, I believe I'd give both of them plenty of time in the post on this trip, and put Maddie back spelling Corosdale, where she belongs. Looking at that box score, I'm guessing we started Maddie in the post. Since it's highly unlikely she's going to grow a few more inches prior to conference play, I think that's a mistake. If playing the senior there, rather than a freshman, gave us a better chance of winning, then we should. I don't think that's going to be the case, however. I agree, if AA is NOT going to play for the Beavs, just let us know and be up front about it. They can do that and not disclose whatever information is a national secret re: health issues. Just let us know, we'll support her regardless, and let's put this speculation to bed once and for all. It really is distracting to the WBB supporters, which isn't the focus of the team of course, and is a distraction from team focus I would think We can quit speculating on her future and I would think put the focus on who may be taking those minutes in the middle, team wise that is..

Taylor, Kennedy, and Taya all give us a ton of versatility, mostly at the 4/5 spots, and perhaps times at the 3. When Taya is at the 4, we are a very outside oriented team, because Taya seems to favor the three-ball to the post. When Taylor is at the 4, we become more of a paint-oriented team, because at this point, from what I have gathered, she prefers the paint/high-post to the outside. When we have Kennedy at the 4, we get a little bit of both the perimeter and paint, because she plays both the outside and inside very well. I think Trish and Jelena will play exclusively at the 5 this year. Janessa and Maddie will also provide strength, toughness, and experience at the 4/5 spots. It'll be fun to watch Rueck use a lot of different lineups the year! I'm also looking forward to Taylor and Kennedy playing on the floor together.

I'm really looking forward to Jas Simmons making a HUGE sophomore jump. I think we are going to be fine in the 3/4/5 positions, with the breadth of talent OSU has today. I believe Jas is going to get a fair amount of PT while Kat is recovering. I am hopeful that Jas is ready to make that leap with a year of OSU Basketball behind her.
