Note the guy in salmon colored pants, probably their guide, shorter than even Noel and dwarfed by Jelena, Andrea and Trish, great pic ! Note Jelena is going to ride, probably, that's encouraging.

I would say Jelena was bike riding based on this video....good therapy for her knee? Oh, and the guy in the salmon colored pants looks about the right age and height to double as Scott Rueck's dad

Not necessarily significant, but Coach Katie is adding an inch to Taylor and Trish. If Taylor is really close to 6'5", with those long arms, that should be plenty enough height to play center in the Pac-12. Cool Pic.
In taking a look at the Pics from Italy, and trying to watch angles, and see who is standing closer to the camera, but Jelena looks a bit taller than AA.

It's certainly possible some of these gals are still growing...if these new numbers are correct Taylor is in the midst of a growth spurt, adding 2 inches from a year and a half ago. I don't know her birthdate, but she still might be age 17 or an early 18. From the pic, AA is taking a longer stride then JM, so that makes her look shorter.

newduke2, I was talking about looking at various other pics from the trip. It's difficult to determine, because in some of the pics Jelena was standing a bit closer to the camera, but in a couple the others, it really looked like she was an inch or more taller. A side by side pic would be nice.

Total OSU 383, Italy 186 Average OSU 95.75, Italy 46.5. While it’s nice seeing the Beavs demolish overmatched opposition, we’ll have to wait for the non-conference games to get a sense of whether this squad is an improvement over last season.

: While it’s nice seeing the Beavs demolish overmatched opposition, we’ll have to wait for the non-conference games to get a sense of whether this squad is an improvement over last season. Agree, but since it is the time of year where one can indulge in speculation, allow me to do so: I think this team will be a major upgrade to last year's squad. - first, just the chronological advancement of mainstay players: Mik, Aleah and DS all got to play on other high level teams and hone their games. Jazz got to do so as well. - recent newcomers Jazz and Trish got more time to "get it" and get comfortable with the playbook and players (DS as well, to some degree) - just having the practice and competition this early will reap dividends between now and the beginning of the season. - while we lost some very heady defense in KTMac, we might have picked up some more offensively aggressive players in her stead: just like Gabby Hanson before her, KTMac was soooo good at one aspect of the game that she was out there despite the obvious diminished offensive output her presence provided. Some of the newer players took more shots in one game in Italy than KTMac would take in a couple. - we get Kat back at some point, and likely around the time we'll really need her - our center position just got faster, with more options across a broader spectrum that include a Grymek-like player (assuming Jelena doesn't redshirt) - Thropay is healthy - I think the increased team bonding is an intangible, but a good one, especially if you have newcomers potentially eating into starter minutes. Now does all that translate into a better record? Not sure - I think the upper echlon Pac-12 teams will be tougher outs this year. But I think we could easily *be* one of those upper echelon teams if the newbies continue on the trajectory they seem to be on. So I actually am starting to harbor hope this will be one of those "special" years just like the last time the team was in Italy, demolishing overmatched competition. Less about the competition, more about the timing of being able to do so. Go Beavers!

I think this year's team will definitely be better than last year's, but Stanford and Oregon will be better as well. If we got a high enough seeding, it is conceivable that we would have a legitimate shot at the Final Four. It's going to be hard to get such a seeding, however, if we finish 3rd in our own conference, and that, I fear, is what our fate will be - a top ten team that winds up a 3 or 4 seed, and goes to a regional 3 time zones away.

The Stanford game last year was awful. The team shot 28.5% and Mik, Taya, Katie, and Aleah shot a combined 13.7% from the field, and we played Taya at the 5 for a lot of the game. We had 4 assists and 13 turnovers. I know they add a lot, but they lose Alanna Smith who was a terrific, well-rounded player. The big key for us will be going 2-2 (or better!) against Stanford and UO.
I think we pretty much know what Destiny can do and we know what Mikayla can do, but can Aleah and Taya up their efficiency, and can Kat pick up where she left off? Can Taylor and Kennedy do what they did in Italy against Pac-12 competition? A big part of the Oregon game will be defending Hebard and Sabally.

"Can Taylor and Kennedy do what they did in Italy against Pac-12 competition?" I would say, highly unlikely. That's not to say they won't have great freshman seasons. I'm expecting that.

Don't get me wrong. It's very possible we go 2-2 against Oregon and Stanford. Good chance both games at Gill are sellouts, our fan base is awfully loud, and we did go 17-1 at home last year. But for us to finish better than 3rd overall, Brown and Jones will need to play like juniors, not freshmen, all season long.
I'm sure looking forward to seeing what we can do, though, and I certainly hope to be proven wrong. I'm guessing there's no Notre Dame or South Carolina on the pre-conference schedule, so it would be very conceivable that we're undefeated when conference starts. Attendance, which averaged about 5,500 last year, could hit 6,000 this year, and we're once again going to be very, very hard to beat in our gym.
